I seriously need a new office chair ...

Deciding on a new chair for my little workspace in my office. I sit there when I'm working from my laptop usually....and need something pretty & comfy. I can always add a cushion if I needed to, like I have now. The current chair I have I purchased from Target about 2 years ago and i think it was only $80. I can afford to spend a little more this time around, but I didn't want to go past $250. Any suggestions? I LOVE white, but is it practical?? Will it get too dirty? or should I just get black? What kind of desk chair do you have?? I'd love to read your comments.

UPDATE: I bought one of these chairs, but I will reveal it when it arrives! :) Thank you sooo much to everyone for your suggestions.

(BELOW): My desk area in my office/studio.
I am leaning toward the white chairs, but may change my mind. I don't care for a colorful chair as much because I can always add a colorful cushion.

  1. I'd go with the red chair!

  2. Hi Jenn! I really like numbers 5 & 7. I love my office chair but if needs an update, so I'm going to have it reupholstered in something a little more girlie and fun. I don't know if you like having arms on your chair, but it is something to consider.

I continue to enjoy your blog! Have a great weekend.

  3. Love the red for the color but I'd pick #5 for overall style and it looks comfy enough!

  4. My vote is for #5 because that's the one I have! :) It is actually really easy to keep clean. I use one of those Mr. Clean magic erasers on it and it stays bright and sparkly!

  5. no.5 with the cream leather is so chic! love your current office space, the images on the wall are so gorgeous and wow that is one tidy desk! ;)

  6. I'm looking for a new office chair too. And the ones you posted (esp 2, 5, and 7) look great! Would you mind sharing your sources?

  7. SLAG,
Thanks and you're right...I just added the sources for all the chairs. : )

  8. If I wasn't so clumsy, I'd definitely go for a white chair! Plus it would match your desk :D I do like #5 but check how high the arms are when you're sitting in the chair comfortably...because if the arms don't fit under the desk at that height it's a huge pain! I currently have a basic (but very comfortable) black (ugly!) office chair that I cover with an orange scarf/pashmina. And of course the arms are too high to fit under my desk at the ideal height, so my chair is low and I have terrible posture. Doh!

  9. Ms. Unreliable,
Thank....I completely thought about that as well. Luckily my desk can be raised if i need it to...but good point. : )

  10. I like 2,6, & 7. However, would go with 6 because its not a solid black, also it has no arms & looking at your current chair it too has none. That tells me your not used to having the arms (I actually prefer none) because I tend to lean on the desk. Hope that helps:)

  11. I have sat on the bungey chairs before and they are pretty comfy (comfort is number one if you spend a lot of time there!) but the white ones are oh so sleek and sexy!

  12. number 4 number 4 number 4!!!!!!
but in black. haha. because of your white desk and everything...maybe too much white? but if you left that VERY nice cushion on it, it would look perfect :) otherwise, i like numnber 7 also.

  13. I love four and five.. Four is my fave but would go w/five because it has arm rests for when your sipping coffee and pondering ;)

  14. Number 4 or 5 ...four is sleeker but arms are nice. Maybe with a little pink cushion.

  15. i would go for comfort overall.. if you feel like splurging, get the 'aeron' chair! that's my next purchase...

  16. I'd go #3 or #5! I think #4 seems very much "you"...??? Like I know you? ;) But with no wheels... :(
So I love the compromise of #5 instead. But a pop of red would be nice in the office too.

God, Beefy...blah, blah, blah! Good luck, Jen! :)

    Happy weekend! :)

  17. i think you have to sit in them to see what is the most comfy.

  18. Cute desk area :) Regarding the chair, I think 5 is the cutest, BUT Number 1 looks like it will be the most comfortable and supportive (especially that padding around the lower back area that tends be adjustable). For the office chair, I would definitely go for comfort over style. Good luck!

  19. I am new to your site, and have absolutely loved looking around!

Out of the chairs you have listed, my favorite is #4.

In my workspace at home I have a Nominel swivel chair from IKEA http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20142697 in Hult black (which is black with white squiggly lines.) I really love it!

Good luck finding the perfect chair. :)

My vote on the chair is number 5 for sure.
    Have a great night.

  23. I like no. 3 and 5. :)

  24. The comfy one! I've got one that changes position when I lean back and forward. It's a bit scary before you get used to it, but it has literally saved my back!

  25. I think number 5 would look perfect.
I love your blog and your shop, both are divine!!

I will now begin dropping hints to my boyfriend for valentines day - the Deeply Madly (apple red) silk-screen. If he doesn't get it, i think i will have to. Just beautiful.

Keep up the brilliant work and have a fabulous weekend.

  26. I like chairs 4 and 5, but to be honest I think this is one of those occasions where function rules over form - I bought a 1960s leather office chair and it's really not that comfortable - doesn't help my posture at all. I may have to replace it with a more ergonomically-designed alternative.

  27. Number 4 looks great, but I think you'll be more comfortable on number 5.

Good weekend from the sunny south of Spain ;-)

  28. As a big fan of white (as it turned out recently) I definitely like the white ones, especially #4 as it is so elegant simple. It really depends on what materials are used, because as you said white can get dirty pretty easily. But if it is something that could be cleaned without much effort, I vote for this one - it definitely will look good in a combination with your white desk :)

As for me, I am still trying to find the perfect desk, but it is so hard that I am thinking of making one for myself (with the help of a male friend of course:)) The chair though, is ready - I reupholstered an old one and all I have to do is just paint the wooden parts in whatever colour would suit my desk. :)

    good luck! :)

  29. wow #2 looks so uncomfortable! i;'d go with 1 or 3

  30. I like the white one best (#5 & 6)but I would be nervous it would get dirty. Next pick would be #1. I would add a splash of bright color to it too.

  31. The Eames chairs are timeless and beautiful. I think you should go for chair 4 but with arms. If your office is carpeted wheels aren't necessary, the footing on chair 4 will slide quite easily. However this is completely based on aesthetics! For a desk chair something more ergonomic is important. You have to go test them :)

  35. I'm reading what everyone is writing, so thanks so far! : )
Looks like most people are choosing #5....hmm that is my first choice too...but just want to see what most people would choose and if ANYONE has any of these cute little chairs in their own office. : ) Let me know...

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend.

  36. i love #5 and want it for my sewing space...

-i loovove white it would look awesome against that chocolate paint just like your desk.
-leather cleans up pretty easily... dont think anything would stain unless you were drinking purple grape juice or something
-and i dig that it has arms and casters unlike #4.

  37. i love no. 5 of the chairs! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Go with Number 5! Number 7 is the safe, typical choice...but 5 is a sexy chair, f a chair can be sexy!

  39. Im feelin no. 5!! Your office area is lovely! xx

  40. I already commented (see comment #4) but maybe you missed it! I do indeed have chair 5, though mine is more of a bright white. (I got it from Eurway, who is actually having a 20% off sale right now on everything!) It is surprisingly easy to keep clean and quite comfy. Plus, should you decide you don't like the arms (or they don't fit under your desk) you can just take them off. Anyway, hope that helps!

  46. Definitely no. 5--is that an Eames? You could probably get that for a really good price from officedesigns.com.

  47. I would have to sit in them all....the most comfy would win!

  48. GO FOR 5... no question.... no contest... definitely 5

  49. I really love 4 but it doesn't seem really comfortable.

Which one is the most comfortable? Do they have it in other colors?

Let us know the winner :)

  50. I would go with number one or number seven. I am just basing this on looks because I don’t know how comfortable they are. Comfort is #1 when considering an office chair.

  51. 5! 5! 5! but it seems it doesn't matter, lots of people think so too! :)
