FOOD: Zucchini & Lemon Breakfast Bread

Hello! Lauren from Perpetually Chic here today, sharing a recipe from my mother-in-law’s kitchen to yours. You’ve likely noticed at the market that zucchini is in season? There are millions of ways to use your zucchini, but one of my favorites is this zucchini-lemon bread. It’s perfectly moist, not too sweet, and has just a hint of lemon for a fresh twist—I love eating this bread with coffee in the morning, but it’s also VERY hard not to sneak a piece as an afternoon snack, too! Keep reading for the recipe…

Zucchini & Lemon Breakfast Bread
Ingredients:

3 cups of all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups grated zucchini
Zest of half a lemon + juice of half a lemon
1 cup chopped walnuts

Zucchini & Lemon Breakfast Bread | Perpetually Chic for Made By Girl

Instructions:

1. Grease and flour two 8x4 inch pans or two muffin tins. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.
2. In a bowl, combine shredded zucchini, lemon zest, lemon juice and chopped walnuts. Set aside.
3. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
4. In a third bowl, beat eggs, oil, vanilla and sugar together until well combined.
5. Add your bowl of sifted ingredients into the egg-sugar mixture and mix well. Stir in the zucchini-lemon-nut mixture until everything is combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pans or muffin tins.
6. Bake for 40 minutes to an hour, until a toothpick inserted in the center of your bread or a muffin comes out clean. Time will vary based on whether you use the bread pans or muffin tins. Let the pans or muffin tins cool on a rack for 20 minutes…if you can!
7. If you want to freeze the second loaf or some of the muffins, just wrap them individually with Saran wrap and place in a freezer Ziploc bag. To thaw, just let sit on the counter until they come to room temperature.

Fall Essential: THE TWEED JACKET

Do you own anything by Chanel?

I have to admit, I only own nail polish. I've never made the jump to buy a Chanel handbag - yet. This is such a popular brand, with Coco herself creating the iconic tweed jacket back in the day  - 1950s.  But, don't be fooled by the old date, this jacket is a closet staple - and whether it's a true vintage tweed you own or a newer 'inspired version' (non-chanel) it's a must-have this Fall. The texture alone is what attracts me & I LOVE the mix of colors on the modern versions like the MSGM. So chic, yet still classy!

What would I pair these jackets with?? I would add a tight leather skirt (super trendy right now) or a pair of jeans for a more casual look.

Want to make your (non-chanel) jacket seem more chic?? Add a simple chanel brooch!

M.M. LAFLEUR

Ok, this is not an "outfit-post blog" - but every now & then I enjoy sprucing things up & adding something different.  Sooo.....the people over at MM Lafleur sent this gorgeous dress my way as a gift. I'm so thankful....had to show you you!  It wasn't easy getting in front of the cameras again - it's not what I like to do.... So, here it goes.

I recently fell in LOVE-- with M.M. Lafleur.  From their take on a true definition of femininity to their simple, yet sophisticated style-- I was enamored from the beginning.  I definitely encourage all women to check out their collection & read their story.  I get so many emails from women all over the world telling me how much I've inspired them. But.... I too am inspired by other business women, and these two business owners are such an inspiration to me.

I'm so grateful to own a dress from their collection. The lovely dress I'm wearing, the Felisa (in sky), fits amazing- it's a size 6 & really accentuates my (barely there) curves.  This dress is perfect if you don't have a ton of hip action...like myself! ha! Below I highlighted 4 of my favorites from their collection, which do you like best??

Vernis in love polish in 'Noir Caviar' by Lancome

How cool is it that the dresses are made in NYC?

Helmut Lang

Helmut Lang clothing is HOT!

Every time I see something by Helmut Lang - I know it's HL. The details are always identifiable
with touches of leather in mostly black or white, always looking so stylish & chic.  It's like the type of clothing all the cool people are wearing ha!  I can't seem to get enough of this look - So much so, I tried on the dress with the BIG leather pockets recently, but unfortunately it was the last one left & it had a defect!!  Argh....just my luck.

Are you into Helmut Lang? Yes or no?

SERIES: MY HOME, MY SPACE

What is your favorite area in your home and why?

Hi, My name is Jeaneen Kelly and I am an Interior Designer/Stylist & occasional freelance writer, from Sydney, Australia.  I've chosen to share with you photos of my lounge room as It is definitely my favorite room in my house. The reason I chose this room is because I feel that it encapsulates my personal style as a designer to a tee. I really love bright, bold interiors that have a definite sense of fun, creativity and youthfulness. I am incredibly inspired by fashion and feel that in many respects, this room is evidence of that.

I love quirky elements such as surfboards and chandeliers, and GRAFFITI pop art. Fashion items such as my favorite heels and prized Chanel "twinsies" bags, along with fashion title books are all on display in vignettes around the room. I like to come home and be inspired by a mixture of fun pieces, quite honestly-it just makes me happy!

I am VERY much influenced by the surf/skate culture in Sydney, and love bold interiors with a touch of rock & roll that are fearless with color and accessories. My favorite piece in the room would have to be my French antique lounge found in a thrift store for FIFTY dollars, which I painted and reupholstered myself in a hot pink fabric.

In essence this space is an accumulation of my interests and passions as a young designer inspired by music, street-culture, art and fashion. I hope you enjoy the photos!

FOOD: Preserving Summer

Hi MadeByGirl readers, it is Alison here from Heart of Gold! Today I am sharing with you some  products that can help you preserve the goodness of summer. Is anyone else in disbelief that we are already near the end of August? I feel like the summer months have just been flying by at record speed. It is my goal to really savor these last months of beautiful weather.

One easy way to do this is to preserve your favorite summer produce like peaches, berries, cucumbers or radishes by turning them into jam or pickling them for later use.  If you haven't noticed this has become quite the culinary trend, from cooking magazines to your own grocery store shelves that seem to be stocked with mason jars and books on home preservation.  Here are some of my product picks to squeeze every last bit out of your summer!

Cheetah Print Obsessed

I'm sooo fascinated with cheetah prints - I have several items in this pattern. How about you??
Heck, I have leopard print stuff too. Well, I was INSPIRED to create a painting for MADE BY GIRL for the very first time...enter: Sitting Cheetah.

I made this piece freehand with a paint brush - nothing more.  I also got inspired to add some cheetah print items along to get you in the mood for this new print. The Jerome Dreyfuss popoche clutch is one of my faves & I actually got as a gift for my Birthday!!

So, do you like cheetah print?? Would you be daring enough to wear it as a pair of pants??!?  For me, I'd do both!

Speaking of....my friend Ashlina from The Decorista blog was the first to hang the print! So awesome to see it in her office even before it was available for purchase here.  Ashlina also has our Metallic gold love print hanging in her office - you spot it?  LOVE the way she decorated the whole space - so chic, don't you think??

Check out the gorgeous gallery wall - and I also love how she displays her FAITH with a bible scripture on her inspiration board - beautiful.  Where did she buy all her pretty office items you're wondering?!?!?!?

Well, you can get Ashlina's style by visiting her blog here.

BEAUTY: SUMMER BEAUTY STAPLES

Hi MadeByGirl readers! Kelsey from Kelsey Nicole here. Today I am here to share with you six beauty products that I have been loving this summer. Let's get to it!

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream
Due to the high heat, and sometimes often high humidity, I try to keep my makeup light in the summer. This BB cream is perfect for days when you want minimal coverage but don't want to wear foundation.

Essie "Big Spender"
Confession: I am a fan of this Essie shade year-round, but especially in the summertime. It looks great with a variety of skin tones and especially great with tan skin.

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light
The lighter version of Josie's Argan Oil is perfect for daytime wear. I know it is strange to put oil on your face in the morning, but trust me on this one. It absorbs quickly and does not leave an oil finish.

Benefit They're Real! Mascara
Everyone knows this mascara is great. What I didn't know was how great this mascara is at staying on in the water. While it is not waterproof, it surprisingly stays put at the pool or at the beach.

Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry
My hair is naturally curly so it can get quite frizzy when I straighten it on humid days. This serum works wonders and keeps my hair straight through damp weather.

Fresh Sugar Shine Lip Treatment
I love Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment, so when they came out with the Shine Lip Treatment, I knew I was going to love it as well. I was right and after one try, this gloss became a staple in my beauty routine.

What were some of your favorite beauty products this summer?

Gallery Wall

Welcome back everyone! Hope you're weekend went well.

As for me, I've been putting together a gallery wall in my office for quite sometime now. I managed to sell the art that was here & now I'm adding some of my own.  This blank wall that stand over my desk area needs some art - & fast.  I put together these pieces below but still have a few more to add soon...stay tuned!

Most of the art below is my own- which you can purchase at MADE BY GIRL or Cocoa & Hearts - minus the Kate Moss print, which was a gift!

The lighting is the Meurice floor lamp by Jonathan Adler

This is one of the newest print at MADE BY GIRL - just added today! It's in french "NON & OUI indecis" - English translation is "No & Yes - Undecided" - this print also has a real gold paint swatch across the front.  I like to think it's a mix of MADE BY GIRL & Cocoa & Hearts!  You can buy yours here.

Frames can also be purchased via my shop - this one is the brushed gold frame.

SERIES: My Home, My Space

What is your favorite area in your home and why?

Hi everyone! This is Paloma from La Dolce Vita and Paloma Contreras Design. I am thrilled to share my favorite space in our home with you. It's pretty appropriate that this Made by Girl series about favorite spaces as opposed to a favorite room because my favorite area in our house is composed of three rooms that open onto one another. When you walk into my home, you arrive in the entryway shown above. Directly across from that on the right, is my formal dining room and on the left, my formal living room.

Admittedly, we don't spend too much time in these rooms except for when we have friends or family over, but I feel like this overall space is a pretty accurate reflection of our style. I love that black and white serves as the foundation, accented by some pops of color, abstract art, and a few bold patterns.

Beauty: Lancome

What's your favorite brand of makeup? For me, there are so many, I swear. But a few favorites are Laura Mercier, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, MAC & Lancome.

Well, the people over at Lancome sent me the most amazing goody bag & of course,  Lancome has always been one of my go-to brands when it comes to beauty.  My faves are the lip glosses & their new perfume called "La Vie Est Belle" - which means "Life is beautiful"  --- smells great by the way!  I'm now going to be giving this scent to my mom for her upcoming birthday.

So, let me break the down the goody bag:

The Gloss in Love. This gloss definitely loves the lips, with its shine & long-lasting effect. It totally moisturizes & has a cool click-to-open package. Never seen anything like that! It has a lip hugging applicator which I find to be very ideal - as it truly hugs the lips.

Juicy Tubes: This is my favorite lip gloss. It offers medium coverage while still providing color. Lips will be ultra-glossy with this tube-tip applicator, so if you like glossy - this is your gloss!

Vernis in Love. My 2 fave colors are 'Noir Caviar' & 'Violette Coquette ' This is a good quality polish,  with fade resistant shine. Great lasting color & shine, that's what I love about it.

Bi-Facil. Lancome's eye makeup remover was one of the first I ever used.  This particular one activates when shaken and totally removes your eye makeup. It also conditions and refreshes your skin. It leaves the eye feeling refreshed without that oily residue that some removers leave. I hear it's also idea for contact lens wearers.

Hypnose DramaTheir mascara rocks. My lashes are instantly longer-looking and dark. I love the volume & drama effect this mascara has. No clumpies or flakeys, that's why it's my fave.

Which makeup brands do you use?? Is Lancome on your list??
