Chic Gifting + Wishlist

I always like thinking about what I'm going to GIVE & what I'd like to RECEIVE for the Holidays. I know it's already going to be November, but my husband is already asking, "So, what do you want for Christmas Jen?"  I figured I'd get started now, but I also think gifting something to myself isn't out of the question. Let's face it, after working so hard this year, why not?

Today, I rounded up some chic GIFTS - yes a bit pricey, but I always feel spoiling yourself at least once or twice a year is ok. And you?!?  My favorite & top of my wishlist is #1:  Helmut Lang Belted Coat .  I want!

Oh & have you seen the new stationery from Kelly Wearstler available via Paperless Post?!?!?!?!
I already have a stash of them for my office!  Super duper CHIC.

Some are simply eye palettes while some have a little blush and/or lip gloss thrown in. Either way, I want them all. Here are a few available now:

Trend: The Name Necklace

Were you around in the 80's?!?  If you said YES, then I'm sure you remember the popular personalized name necklaces that just about every teenage girl wore. And, they were so pricey!!

I was waaaaay too young & NOT cool enough to wear these - but all the older girls at my school definitely had them.  I knew one day I'd own one, but had no idea it would be in 2013.

Just to give you a little history, these name necklaces have been spotted on popular celebrities from Rhianna to Madonna. But the most iconic name necklace gal has to be Sarah Jessica Parker wearing her 'Carrie' necklace on Sex & the City! She revived the trend & made it popular - so once again, EVERY girl has to have one with her name on it!  Not only can you buy one with your name, but you can gift one to your best friend, or wear one with your daughter's name & so on! Get creative.

You can now buy these wanna-be Carrie Bradshaw necklaces made of 18k GOLD plated over Sterling silver at MADE BY GIRL.

FASHION: QUILTED WORLD

Hi again! Adri of Adri's World here with some quilted fashion. I love this trend! I've always loved the look of quilted bags, Chanel to be specific, and I love that this season it can found in everything from a skirt to a watch!  I don't really wear sweatshirts too much but I really love that quilted light grey one, add a quilted sports watch (which I love) and you have a casual chic look.

Here in NYC it rains quite a bit so those rain boots would add a pop of color to any rainy day. A duffle bag or a clutch with a touch of quilt is the perfect way to add this trend to any outfit. I also love those ballerina flats, they would go well with any outfit and are comfortable and stylish!  I'm really loving this trend, so until I get a dreamy Chanel bag why not add a bit of quilt to my wardrobe, right?

Do you like the look of quilt? Which would you add to your closet?

FOOD: SPICY PUMPKIN SOUP

Hello... Fallon of Sage + Sparkle here this Monday morning & I'm so excited to share a pumpkin soup recipe with you! You see, I love pumpkin... okay, I'm obsessed.  Every year, for the past four years (this is my first year blogging about it) I have done "12 Weeks of Pumpkin", where I make a new pumpkin dish weekly, starting in September, ending after Thanksgiving!  With Halloween coming up - it also seemed quite appropriate!

I like to do a mix of sweet and savory dishes and today I want to share with you one of my favorite savory options, one that has a little bit of kick. Fall is the perfect time for soup, and what better way to enjoy a soup, than with pumpkin.  What I love about soup, is that it's the perfect thing to make and then freeze and have yummy little lunches to take with you to work our enjoy on a night when your crunched for time.  This soup is hearty, healthy, and delicious... and super easy to make.  Give it a try and please, be sure to let me know how you like it.

FOOD: Herbed Rice Bowl with Poached Egg & Radish

Poached Egg, Radish & Feta over Herbed Rice | perpetuallychic.com

Hi everyone! Lauren dropping in today with a recipe that's perfect for cozy weekend mornings at home this fall. This hearty and healthy dish was actually inspired by a photo I saw in my Instagram feed of someone's brunch at a restaurant in L.A. Even though I hadn't tasted the original, the combination of ingredients in that photo looked right up my alley, so I knew I had to try recreating something similar. I also love picking up watermelon radishes this time of year--they can be hard to find but basically have the same peppery taste as regular radishes.

They're BRIGHT PINK inside and just way too pretty to pass up. Just goes to show that whether on Instagram, at a restaurant or at the farmers' market, you never know where inspiration will strike!

Poached Egg, Radish & Feta over Herbed Rice | perpetuallychic.com
Ingredients:
2 cups of cooked brown rice
1 cup fresh herbs (parsley, mint, cilantro)
Extra virgin olive oil
Crushed red pepper flakes
Kosher sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Lemon juice
1 large watermelon radish or 2 regular radishes, sliced thinly on a mandoline
2 eggs
Fresh chives, chopped
Fresh feta cheese, crumbled

Poached Egg, Radish & Feta over Herbed Rice | perpetuallychic.com

Instructions:
1. Place herbs in a small food processor. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Puree into a thick pesto, adding more oil if necessary to combine.
2. In a bowl, combine the warm rice and the herb pesto. Mix well with a spoon to evenly coat the rice with the pesto. Season with red pepper flakes, salt, black pepper and a quick squeeze of lemon juice.
3. In a small pot, bring water to a boil then reduce heat to simmer and add a splash or two of vinegar. Crack each egg, one at a time, into a small bowl then gently slide the egg into the pot. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, then carefully scoop the eggs out with a slotted spoon.
4. Divide the rice between two bowls. Top each with the radish slices, then a poached egg. Sprinkle with the chives, feta, salt and pepper.

BEAUTY: The Bordeaux Lip

Hello! Kelsey from Kelsey Nicole here today. Fall is my favorite time of year for many reasons, one being that it is the perfect time to make a statement. Cooler weather allows you to wear trendy fashion items like plaid, fur, and leather, preferably not all at once. It also allows you to experiment more with makeup trends. One that I am particularly excited to try is the bordeaux lip. While a little intimidating, I think it would incredible with a simple eye and sleek ponytail. And perhaps some fur.

Here are a few bordeaux lip options:

DIY: Rockstar Pumpkin

I posted this cute little Rockstar Pumpkin on my Instagram not long ago & it got a lot of great feedback! So I thought, why not turn this into a little DIY feature? It's so easy.

Pumpkin decorating is essential for Fall – it's a great accessory to keep around the house, whether at a desk or a dinner setting during the Holidays. The best part is, you can't do it wrong! You can decorate your pumpkin however YOU want! So, if you're inspired by my Rockstar Pumpkin, and want to give it a shot – I've prepared some easy-to-follow instructions:

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Pumpkin – I used a 5" one, but the size is completely up to you!
  • White acrylic paint – I used Liquitex® Basics from Michael's
  • Foam Brush – you can find a similar brush that I used here
  • Golden Pyramid Brass Studs – I used these 3/8" studs, but sizes vary!
  • A sheet or old fabric you don't mind getting paint on!

HOW TO ROCKSTAR PUMPKIN:
  • Begin by simply painting your pumpkin in its entirety. I chose white because I like how the white and golden studs looked together, but you can choose whatever color speaks to you!

The size of your brush should depend on the size of your pumpkin. The bigger the pumpkin, the bigger the brush should probably be to make the process easier. A smaller brush should be used around the bottom of the stem to avoid getting any paint on it. Careful – that area is tricky!

  • I'd suggest 3 coats of paint but wait a few hours in between in each. After the paint on your pumpkin has dried, it's time to apply the studs! I used the Medium 3/8" studs, but you can choose whichever size you'd like. If you want a more "flashy" pumpkin, you can go ahead with bigger studs!
  • Push in the studs wherever you'd like. I scattered mine around the circumference of the pumpkin – play around and see as you go to decide whether you want more or less. You can also arrange the studs to spell out a word or create a shape!

  • Ta da! You have your pumpkin!! Use it to add a touch of fun to your desk like I did, or display it on the table at your next dinner party. Enjoy.

Maybe next time I'll try adding a mohawk. Ha.

FASHION: FALL HATS

Hey! Hope everyone is enjoying fall as much as I am – although here in NYC if you're standing in the sun, it still feels like Summer. I'm sure all New Yorkers know what I mean. Soon enough we'll be wearing boots, scarves, hats – is your Fall wardrobe ready yet?

Speaking of hats, DID YOU KNOW that not everyone feels comfortable wearing hats?? In fact, I used to be one of 'those people.  I'd feel totally self-conscious & think "does this hat look good on me?" or the other question, "is everyone going to be staring at me?" - anyone else felt that way??
However, these days I'm much more confident when I wear a hat - well, actually it depends on the hat.  I rounded up a few ready-for-Fall styles,  but my fave is the #5 Rag & Bone Dunaway Hat. Classy all the way.

How do you feel about hats? self-conscious? or completely confident?

Fashion: L'Orange

Hi everyone! Adri here of Adri's World. Fall is here and the leaves are beginning to change to beautiful shades of orange, so let's talk about all the "orange in fashion"!
I think orange is one of those colors that when worn right can be very, very stylish! It's the perfect tone to add to your fall wardrobe. I don't normally wear orange, but I'm really loving the look of that coat!

Maybe a bit of color without making a big statement? How about some accessories? That gold and orange ring or that watch would be gorgeous with neutrals or warm colors. Add a bit of color with that orange pouch to hold a few things for a night out or with that tassel card holder and you'll sure make an impression when handing out your business cards.

Now, if you really want to make a statement, that bag is the perfect choice. Don't you love it? Oh, but those shoes (which by the way have a gold zipper in the back). Amazing, right?

Do you wear orange? Are you adding it to your closet this season? I think I'm definitely going to!

Dairy-Free Chocolate Mousse Pie

How's it going? This is Mat again - I'm actually going to share how to make a dairy-free, gluten-free  mousse pie recipe (adapted from a regular version) I made for Jen.

Ingredients:
18 oz silken tofu
7 oz dark chocolate (70% or higher)
1/2 package sugar-free dark chocolate Jello pudding mix
2 tsp vanilla
1/4 C light agave
1 6oz box crunchy dark chocolate cookies*
2 Tbsp margarine

Run the cookies in a food processor until coarsely crumbled. Melt the margarine and pour into a bowl with the cookie crumbs, then mix until the crumbs are well covered and moist. In a 9" pie tin, evenly distribute the crumb mix and press lightly with fingers. Place a piece of wrapping plastic over the tin, then use another tin to press the crumb mix until smooth. Remove the plastic and set aside.

Melt the chocolate - use either a double boiler or break into small pieces in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 45 seconds then stir until fully melted (don't cook longer or it will burn). Put tofu, chocolate, pudding mix, vanilla, and agave in a food processor or blender and blend until well blended - about 3-4 minutes.

Pour the mousse mix into the pie crust, spreading carefully to the edges. Refrigerate covered for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.  Cut thin slices and plate with strawberries or raspberries. We also sprinkled some edible gold on top, creating a fancier look. Bon Appétit.

BEAUTY: THE FAKE-UP BAG

Kimberly of KimberlyLuxe here and I'm so excited that I'll finally be visiting New York for the first time! I was invited to attend a conference for women in technology and my mind has been all over the place when it comes to my personal brand, future projects, what I'm going to wear, and how I'm going to do my makeup. One thing is for sure, I want to be camera ready for those random pictures that'll be taken to commemorate the event, as well as, those picture that may be used to later promote the event.

But I don't think that I want to cake-on my makeup as I really don't want to have to deal with the reapplication and resetting process that comes after hours of wearing the mixture of primer, foundation, concealer, and powder. So as I pack and get ready to go, I will be building a Fake-Up Bag -- one that will be full of product shortcuts for achieving "No-Makeup Looking Makeup". Because let's face it, make-up can often cake-up, so my goal for this trip will be to, fake-it like I make-it.

+ BB/CC Cream One of my must have Fake-Up Bag Essentials is a BB Cream, CC Cream, or Tinted Moisturizer. The products make for an awesome base and imperfection concealer without the hassle of having to go through a multi-step process that is often needed in order to achieve a full foundation routine. The great thing about BB Creams, CC Creams, and Tinted Moisturizers is that they are often 4-In-One Products. They usually always have SPF, primer, foundation, and moisturizing properties as staples! Maybelline's Dream Fresh BB Cream is a definite whole-in-one!

+ Refresher I absolutely love using MAC's Studio Fix+ Spray. The solution allows my makeup to stay on all day while looking refreshed and vibrant. But recently, I have started making my own version of MAC's Studio Fix+, when I learned that Glycerin and Water have the same benefits as the clear solution sold at cosmetic stores! But if you're not looking to spend MAC money or if you're not in the mood to make this solution on your own, then Burt's Bees Rosewater & Glycerin Solution is a great semi-organic and budget friendly face alternative for you! Simply put some in a small spray bottle and spitz it before or after you're done applying your fake-up!

+ Mascara No matter if you're planning on wearing makeup or not, mascara is definitely a must-have as it allows your eyes to be the focal point of your face. Not only does mascara wake up sleepy eyes but it also can pull a fake-up look together! Benefit Cosmetic's "They're Real" Mascara is worth every penny as it'll expand and elongate your lashes in a fun and flirty way!

+ Lip-Stain A lip-stain is that great product that's right in between a lipgloss and a lipstick. Lipstains are known to withstand meals and weather as they provide a long-lasting lightweight finish! For a day look, I prefer a lipstain that is nude or light pink so it gives more natural appeal! OCC's Lip Tars are all the rave because in my opinion they pack the most perfect pucker punch in an organic and vegan way!

What's in your Fake-Up Bag?! What are your essentials for creating a natural and not so heavy makeup look?
