Jen's Festive Gift IDEAS: Pets

Hey everyone! Welcome back from your Holiday! We had a great Thanksgiving even though we were also in the middle of moving...but it gave us a few extra days to get things done in the new apartment!  Thankful about that.

Speaking of holidays, can you believe it's December already? Well, that means gift guides galore everywhere you look. I've decided to jump on the bandwagon & bring you some interesting Festive Gift Ideas (in case you're at a lost for what to shop for). There is no set schedule, but I'll be posting these every couple days or so until Christmas time.

So, lets' start with the PUPS.  I know our boxer Darla needs a new bed really bad.... I haven't decided which one yet. However, I really love this selection over at Bliss Home & Design.  What do you think?? Help me choose!

Darla

I haven't had much time to enjoy the Mark 2 camera I bought earlier this year. In fact I've only used it for work purposes. I finally decided to play with it today & Darla (my pretty boxer) was the subject.

She played it cool the entire time - posing while looking out the window, then away from the cam & then looking a bit tired. She's 9 years old & still healthy, so grateful to God! My favorite moments with her are when I get up in the morning & look over as she glances up at me. I also love entering our apt after a walk, she sits & waits for me to wipe her feet. (Yes, we wipe them every time) The look in her eyes as she glances up at me while I clean her little paws, so in love.

I can't even imagine what it's like to be without her.

Do you have a pet? What is your most cherished moment with them?

Hook Your Dog Up this V-DAY

I posted some pics of my boxer Darla on my instagram the other day wearing some booties from a company called Pawz. We LOVE these things for many reasons, which you'll read below.

But in addition to pawz - I also wanted to highlight some cute gifts you can get your pup for valentine's day. Nothing wrong with hooking your dog up on V-day right? YES, some of us LOVE our dogs & gifts on V-day aren't unusual. Enjoy!

This is my Darla in her pawz booties. She doesn't like them so much, I guess they feel foreign to her. However she's very & doesn't try to take them off. In fact she waits patiently for me to remove them when we get back from her walk.

These are great if you want to protect your dog's paws from all that awful salt they throw around when it's snowing. These booties also help keep your floors clean - do you have any idea how much dirt a dog's paws bring in from outside??!?! It's GROSS!!

 1. harry barker safari bed
 2. kiehl's cleansing spritz
 3. penguin rope toy - barney's
 4. locket dog collar cwonder
 5. scalamandre zebra bedvia skully & skully
 6. zebra bow collar via barney's
 7. pawz doggie boots (great for keeping your dog's paws clean   from snow salt)
 8. canine styles puffer coats (Darla has one of these in orange)

Fancy, Fancy - For Dog Lovers

I know I'm not the only one who celebrates their pets BIRTHDAY. Right??!?! When that time of the year comes rolling around, I'm always grateful that our Darla is still with us, another year later! I believe she is a gift from God & even though I don't buy her a cake & some candles - I do buy her a gift or two!

Below I picked out 7 fancy gifts for DOG LOVERS. I'm sure you'll love them if you don't mind splurging. Some are PRETTY DARN pricey I admit.  Honestly, the most I've spent on a gift was $250 for our dog, so this is def something to think about.

Do you celebrate your pet's Birthday?? Which gift below would you buy for your dog if you could??

Canine Styles in NYC

This is purely for PET LOVERS.

I love buying cute things for my dog. Last month I decided to splurge on a Greek Key bed (for my boxer, Darla) from Canine Styles. I love this shop & it's super close to my apartment! They have a bunch of pretty dog collars, toys, shampoos & so much more! It has a boutique feel when you walk inside & everything is stored so neatly....I love it.

The reason I ended up at Canine Styles is because I was tired of going to big chain dog stores & seeing UGLY & uninteresting beds that don't go with my decor!

This may sound FOO-FOO to some of you - but hey, I love decor & even a doggie bed can seem that much nicer when it mixes in with the decor! Anyone else feel the same??

After buying this bed,  my only regret I have is, I wish I had gotten the 32" instead of the 28".

Canine Styles has about 4 locations in NYC - the one I visited was the one on the upper west side, one of my fave neighborhoods!

Dog Fashion...

Both of my dogs have relatively decent looking collars. Well, one of my dogs does, the other one just has a hand-me-down collar from one of my previous dogs & it's PRETTY DARN OLD! In fact he only wears it when we go outside.

My female boxer is a bit more SPOILED & she has a nicer collar..... but it has little round studs that SCRATCH the walls in my home whenever she rubs against them! Argh!!

So all ranting aside, I've been thinking of SPLURGING on a new one for my female dog....I love all the stylish options I've seen out there!  So, in case you're in the market for a new collar (like me) this Holiday & want something stylish, take a look at these options!

Do you prefer buying fancy dog collars & leashes or keeping it simple??

My Darla...

Sometimes I like to deviate from design & beautiful things by highlighting the things I REALLY love in my life.....

I have two (adopted) boxers but Darla is the one I call my shadow.  She's a 6 yr old boxer who follows me everywhere & always waits for me when I'm getting ready in the morning (which at certain times can take looong, just ask my guy).

No matter how long I take though... she sticks by me. She also loves to wait for me when I'm PAINTING, and sometimes even manages to get paint on her whiskers, but I don't think she minds.  I have to admit,  I LOVE her more & more each day...

Do you have any pets?? What are their names?

For Pet Week

I decided to post some of my pets and a couple that I've had from the past, who are no longer with me unfortunately.  Dogs are the true meaning of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.  If you've ever reprimanded a dog and watched him/her walk away, all you had to do was call them back.  They come right over full of love, with no hatred or anger toward you.  Just happy to be around you and always wanting to let you know.  Losing two of my dogs (the white boxer and the brindle) was a very difficult & emotional time for me.  I still miss them both and have photos hanging in my office to remind myself of their time with me. Thanks to the awesome Madonna Fan & blogger (we have a couple things in common there)  Ms. Liberty Post.

For Pet Owners

Once in awhile I place a posting about dogs, this particular one is just a warning to pet owners about the terrible dog food recall. Its so sad that so many pets are getting sick or passing away, due to this problem. Please take a look at the FDA website for a list of pet foods being recalled. You can also email me for the complete list for cats or dogs. These beautiful images were shot by Ken Phillips, he let me use them and I'm grateful to him. You can see the wonderful work he does for The Animal Hospital on Mt. Lookout Square. Perhaps making your own food is better. You can read my home made dog food recipe in the comments section of this post.
