New Year...New Dining Table..(Via Made By Girl)

And.... we are back! Thanks to all of you who left comments as well as tweets & emails wishing me a Happy New Year! We went out to eat a steakhouse near the strip & then headed home at around 10:45pm to catch the fireworks from our upstairs balcony! Luckily we have a great view of the strip.
So, tell me how did you spend your New Year??

Also, our ZGallerie dining table finally arrived! We ordered it back in October & it had been on back order, but it is now here safe & sound...ready for some upcoming dinner parties! I shot these pics earlier today so you could see the progress. The table is a really solid piece but I warn you, it has a ton of screws...

(click on pics for larger images)

In the meanwhile, I'll be SEARCHING for a dining room buffet piece. It'll end up going underneath the large black & white painting to sort of fill in the space.

I admit, I HAVE NO IDEA what type of buffet to get!

If anyone has any SUGGESTIONS on what type of buffet or color & so on, please feel free to comment.

  1. Sounds like a nice way to see the New Year in. I went on a last minute road trip to the beach which was really nice. Love your dining table too!

  2. So fun to see your space as it evolves! I love the mirrored buffets, but that may not be the look you're going for. I'm sure you'll find the perfect one!

ps. we had the same view for new year's...haha. hopefully see you next time i'm in your 'hood!

  7. Perfect. SO pretty in the space and with the chairs and chandelier. I forget, where is the chandy from? Sorry, I'm sure you've mentioned it a few times.

As for buffet, my initial thought was this piece.

  10. It all looks really gorgeous- I love how your dining room chandlier plays off the pendants in the kitchen- so so pretty. I'll put my thinking cap on re: buffet- my first thought is definitely something light and airy and modern/clean lined I think.

  11. Table looks amazing. Love the contrast with the white and the not matchy matchy look. I will have to go through the rest of the house to get a sense of your style. This is beautiful.

  12. Great table! I kind of like the idea of a low black or dark brown buffet, but a bright colour would look great too!

  20. looks so smart!
please add something rugged and rusty.
like a dirty turquoise side board that looks like it's been sweating on the bottom of the ocean for 50 years. it WILL be your conversation piece and make all of the clean whiteness look like a shot straight out of domino mag. RIP.

  25. I SO agree on the rustic and organic! Mix it up some and add character and texture. Something woodsy and beat up or something old and vintage. Nothing from Z Gallerie, West Elm, Ikea or Crate and Barrel. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Absolutely GORGEOUS! I Love the clean feel of it. As for the buffet, you can go with a modern look http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=20316&catalog=room&category=rm_dining_spaces&subcategory=din_cabinet_stor this in dark walnut or a glam look http://www.highfashionhome.com/elisabeth-buffet.html or http://www.tonichome.com/catalog.php?item=445&catid=13&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D13. So many buffet options!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would say something airy and witha mix of wood metal to flow between the kitchen and the brown table, maybe a metal that seems a bit rusty but with grey-ish metal parts

    What about something like this?

  51. I would purchase a sideboard off of Craigslist and paint it a fun color, something bright and cheerful. I love Scandinavian Chic's sideboard painted hot pink...it's gorgeous and I think would look awesome in your space too. Awesome dining table and still lovin' those chairs..I search Craigslist in DC for similar ones all of the time because mine aren't the most comfortable. Happy New Year!!!

  52. LOVE THE TABLE!

Here are some buffet ideas at good prices:

    http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Red-4-door-Cabinet/5216539/product.html?rcmndsrc=2

The red would look FABULOUS with the brown and white. Ugh, I am already jealous if you get this red side board!! Also, imagine a fabulous mirror or great modern print set above it...

This would be awesome, though not as much storage:

    http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Lime-Green-Sofa-Table/5121732/product.html?rcmndsrc=2

And finally, Little Green Notebook did a great post recently on a way to dress up an ikea piece, which you could buy in a different color or paint:

    http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2010/12/trimmed-out-ikea-besta.html

Any of these would be totally fabulous. I want your dining set!!!

  53. You have no idea how much I love looking at how lovely your new home is coming together. A buffet would work and look perfect under that painting. The contrast between the dark wood and clean lines of the dinning table are a gorgeous contrast to the white rococo inspired chairs. Lovely.

  54. these may be to shabby chic (could also be more eclectic) someone referenced turquoise, here is something:

someone referenced silver, here is something:

    more eclectic:

a lighter wood color to set off the dark features of the room:

(you could paint it a fun color like turquoise, ralph lauren has a great emerald green as well)

  55. When I look at your space with regard to the buffett I'm inclined to think of something unexpected. I'll throw these out to you:

    1) A Laquered piece in an unexpected colour. Red or Tourquoise

    2) Select a "found" architectural piece or industrial piece and have a custom buffett fabricated.

    3) Peruse Layla Grace and look at options.

    4) An antique french/italian buffett may fit the bill as well. One with a nice patina.

Can't wait to see what you select, as it will be perfect!

  59. I don't have any buffet suggestions (I'm really not very good at that), but I have to say that the chairs and table are a dream. It's so cold here where I live (9 degrees F on New years Eve night) that we had no fireworks. By I cuddled with my guy by the fireplace. So nice.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think a glass/acrylic/perspex buffet would work best, because you already have a lot of dark wood and solid materials, so you need something light/transparent to lift the space :)

  64. Your home is looking beautiful!

A solid weathered reclaimed wood buffet ( a pale grayish hue with oil and wax finish only) would bring a refreshing organic texture to break up your current finished black and white scheme. Try restoration hardware or wisteria?

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is looking incredible! And, I just bought that same tray on your table for a client yesterday.

You could totally go bold w/ the buffet. I would pull a color out of the painting (is there hot pink or am I imagining it?) and re-do some cool mid-century style dresser there. Pink may be too much, but you know what I mean :)

    Have a great day!,

I've been following for a while...but never commented before.
Your place started to come together beautifuly.
maybe you should you a bold color for the buffet that would compliment the painting on the other side of the room, or use a piece with metal studs to compliment that beautiful chandelier.
even better just combine the two ideas together; a piece with a bold color and studs.
