DESIGN: Pantone Color of the Year

Hello MBG readers, its Lisa with Gem Daily how are you enjoying 2015 so far? I have always loved setting new resolutions & starting the year fresh. And it wouldn't be another year without a brand new Pantone color that is completely influencing the design world. I must say I was completely surprised when this year's color marsala was announced-very unexpected but I am loving it! It is the perfect mixture of purple and red and I think it can easily add a level of sophistication and richness to a space.

Marsala works perfectly with deep taupes and grays and its gem-like quality is perfect when paired with greens and royal blues. Give marsala a whirl in your space and celebrate the color of the year!

DESIGN: Holiday Tablescape Decor

Hello MBG readers, its Lisa with Gem Daily here with a holiday decor post! I just love the holiday season and LOVE holiday parties, they are the best way to get you in the spirit. And although I have never personally hosted a holiday party, it sure is fun to dream up the table scapes and decor. I'm thinking funky place card holders, lanterns hanging from the ceiling, mistletoe at the front door, the whole nine yards!

For some reason, I am also really loving the mixture of black, white and gold with the more traditional holiday red and green. It adds a little bit of sophistication and isn't too played out and
overdone.

DESIGN: WOOD IN INTERIOR DESIGN

Hello everyone,  its Lisa with another dose of design! As quickly as trends come and go in the design world, it is important to recognize those design elements that are constantly being reinvented and used in unique, innovative ways. A favorite of mine (that I love solely because it really reminds me of fall) is wood. Wood is no longer restricted to a medium for furniture and flooring, it is really something that can be a part of every single design surface. It can be used for funky counter tops, shelving, herringbone wall panels, lighting, you name it!

Take this space via apartment therapy for example-the live edge wood countertop is applied to the stark white, contemporary countertop/cabinets and it completely steals the show. So fresh and organic feeling and it brings a new life to a wood species and tone that may have seemed dated or one-note.

Or this super clean space via the contemporist, where the stark black and white space is contrasted with a warm, rustic wood paneling really captures wood in an amazing way.

And how about wooden staircases taken to a whole new level? This particular one was designed by Arcquitectura en Movimiento via the Stylish Eve and really showcases how amazing wood can really look!

Wood can be a part of your home in so many fun ways, here are some of my favorite wood pieces right now!

DESIGN: New Fall Home Collections

With fall in full effect and so many new collections out on the shelves, I thought I would put together a group of my favorite fall pieces for 2014. I quickly jumped to Rebecca Atwood's website as a starting point because I have been dying over her new patterns for the fall, the colors are so muted and perfectly moody for the holiday season.

After bouncing around to my favorite sites, I quickly found that black/gray, white and gold color combination is still as relevant as ever. From serving trays to textiles, this combo makes simple designs sophisticated, elevated and proven to blend well with different styles.

Another trend that has surprised me with its staying power is natural texture.  Storage pieces, accessories and layers are all about a chunky knit or weave and keeping the material true to its natural form. Natural textures are the easiest way to add warmth and complexity to a space.

Fall Livingroom Vibes

Hi lovely MBG readers, its Lisa with Gem Daily and with fall & colder weather upon us, I thought I would share spaces and decor elements that are all about fall vibes. Personally, I really love bright, white, boho spaces. But when fall rolls around, there is just something so warm and sometimes romantic about a dark moody space that is fitting to the fall and winter season.

I've pulled together some fave design pieces that would be just perfect for a moody space. (I must admit, these are very reminiscent of the Jenner and Kardashian pads I obsess over every Sunday night).

design: boho glam

Hello MBG readers! It's Lisa from Gem Daily this Monday with a look at a fun fresh space I recently stumbled upon on Domaine by the Swedish designer Isabelle Dahlin!  I am such a sucker for bohemian vibes and spaces that feel very imperfect and lived-in and this space is the epitome of boho, effortless glam from top to bottom. The key is really picking textiles that blend well together, textures that create interest and finishes that aren't too fussy.

Check out some of my picks that can help you get the look!

DESIGN: OUTDOOR LIVING

Hi guys, its Lisa of Gem Daily with an inspiring outdoor space that will really push you to enjoy the warmer weather! I stumbled upon the amazing home tour of Estee Stanley on Domaine a few months ago and it is now my image of perfection in terms of outdoor spaces; I will do just about anything and everything to achieve a space that looks similar to this one!

The lounge furniture is so divine in the black and white stripe, the moroccan-inspired tile brings in color in such a sophisticated way & the crisp white backdrop is perfect with the lush greenery. This space really capitalizes on making an outdoor space feel like an extension of the indoor living space and is just screaming for some sangria, a bikini & the latest stack of design magazines!

DESIGN: Geometric

Hi everyone, its Lisa with Gem Daily and I wanted to share some fun geometric design pieces that are all inspired by the amazing space designed by architect, James Merrell. His work is transforming the design world and I am loving his aesthetic and style- always so detailed and fresh. Take my inspiration photo of the wet bar, for example. He has really let the gorgeous geometric tiles do all the talking and make the statement in this space. The geometric lines are so popular right now and there are easy ways to incorporate them into your space with simple, statement pieces. Eat your heart out!

DESIGN: Mix & Match

Hi everyone, its Lisa from Gem Daily with another obsession of mine: dining rooms. I just love how they are much more casual and personal these days and everyone is straying away from the stuffy, traditional dining rooms that we all grew up in. Dining rooms are the most perfect way to bring in a statement lighting fixture piece, a classic table and unique seating; all are investments but that doesn't mean they can't have a bit of an edge!

Check out some dining rooms I've been coveting lately and funky pieces I've been dying to mix and match!

DESIGN: Multiplicity in Design

Hi everyone, it's Lisa from Gem Daily! Lately I've been hunting for interesting art for a large space in my house and have come up unsuccessful. Throughout this search, I have discovered that so many interior design elements are most intriguing and visually strong when in multiples. Whether it be a gallery wall or an arrangement of gorgeous light fixtures, there is just something about taking one particular design element and repeating it that makes it so much more appealing! Thus, the theory of power in numbers.

Designers are even taking unconventional, unique objects that on their own are simple, but when multiplied, their impact is much more powerful. Take Kelly Wearstler's application of the tortoise shells at the Tides Hotel in South Beach for example- just one of these shells is interesting but once she applies hundreds to the wall, it quickly becomes a focal point with unforgettable detail.

OR what about the amazing woven lanterns in George Clooney's Courtyard just recently featured in Architectural Digest? The sheer amount of fixtures is enough to create a stunning scene, but the height at which they are hung is the ultimate cherry on the cake.

I really love spotting thoughtful and smart retail spaces that utilize great interior design as a way to make their goodies look even better. Like this Artifacts store in Dunhua by Taiwanese interior designers Michelle Wei and Cheng Chia Hao, for example. Their shoe displays are so unique and architectural, each shoe is almost like a piece of art, framed and illuminated. The rows and rows of displays are much more powerful as an entire composition than if we just saw one display on its own.

And finally, it doesn't get much better than this vertical garden by Joost Bakker. By taking really simple materials and multiplying them, this outdoor space is transformed on a much grander scale.

DESIGN: Neon Phenomenon

Hi MBG readers, its Lisa with Gem Daily! A major component of the interior design and decor world that I love to watch is trends. I can obsess about how long they stick around, unique ways designers interpret them and even better yet, how quickly e-commerce and retail gets a hold of the trend!

The neon phenomenon has slowly but surely made its way into celebrity homes, becoming a mainstay on Etsy as the most unexpected element to any space. There is something about using neon colors in contemporary spaces that instantly becomes an art piece. And I always love seeing neon color to rehab an older vintage piece; it always does the trick and suddenly you have a revived classic with so much personality.

Take Kourtney Kardashian's master bedroom for example- the bold prints and deep, sexy colors are the perfect backdrop to the hot pink neon "love me" sign over the bed.

Or what about this incredibly clean, crisp and jarring use of orange? So inspiring, memorable and contemporary.

And this clean, fresh bathroom is the perfect blend of playful neon color, white modern lines and warm wood tones.

Decor: Animal Instincts

Hi-this is Lisa from Gem Daily! I don't know about you, but I can't get enough of the animal accessory takeover going on right now! It is one of my absolute favorite ways to accessorize a space and add some funk and character. Even the smallest horn accent or leopard print can instantly create a sense of eclecticism and a bit of the unexpected. And I just love an overstated animal graphic for its bold artistic statement.

What's even better is these accessories tend to come in my personal holy grail of black, white, brass & lucite finishes- can you say instant glamour? Like the pair of lucite antlers from Arteriors for instance, just screams modern glam on top of a stack of coffee table books. Or the Cheetah print from the Aestate would be just perfect featured in a gallery wall. My favorite and most versatile has to be the cowhide pillow; the perfect addition to any contemporary, eclectic or even traditional spaces, it is a definite design staple.
