  16. Omg this looks phenomenal! I love it, and who would have thunk to make slots in the wood to connect! Knowing myself, I would have probably spent hours trying to hammer each piece. This is great!

I bet there's a great used book store somewhere around you. I bought some hardcover classics for $3 each at a used bookstore.

  29. It looks fabulous! I would love one in my place but like you I don't have enough books...lol. It would probably become a vase or photo collection instead of bookcase. ;)

  33. I am impressed. It looks great.

I love Darla, makes me miss our pooch, she was a chow boxer mix and the cutest ever. She caught the old age bug and left us a couple of years ago. Our girls still talk about her....they say they wish they were still babies because they miss Chelsea so much. How sweet is that?

  34. What a great solution! Lucky you who have a bf that can do stuff like this (mine has a great brain and lots of additional features that are also excellent, but carpentry skills? Not so much. Plus he's living abroad for the next year...).
I'm sure your bookcase will look fantastic when you get your 200 books. You do have the Domino Book of Decorating, don't you? And Barnes and Noble! Maybe you could arrange a reverse giveaway - your readers give a book to the MadeByGirl bookcase and thereby enter to win the books you didn't like? Something like that?
(sorry about the rambling. Have a lovely day Jen)

  38. Hey ! Love the shelf but can you please tell me where the tin backsplash came from ? Is that in your kitchen? Do you have more pics? Is it real or faux? I am thinking of doing this in my kitchen as well. Thanks =) Beth

  39. S: Yea, I will search out a place here in Vegas to see if I can find a cheap bookstore and buy a few old classics. I have alot of books, but not enough to fill the shelves just yet. :) SOOO THOUGH!

  40. ANONYMOUS:
I like all kinds of books, but I do prefer hardbacks where there are alot of books in one space.

  41. ANAMIKA:
Not sure just yet if I will be posting a detailed tutorial on how these shelves were built. But if i do, you will definitely see it somewhat soon.

  42. wow! awesome use of space... it looks professional... at first i thought you bought it!

you could try ebay for lots of hard cover classics sold in a bundle...

  43. TAMSTYLES:
I decided to put the shelves there because I wanted to do something with that wall. Besides I'm running out of wall space : )
The shelving is big, its taller than I am and I am about 5'6". So this space is perfect. : )

  44. BETH- The Tin looking Tiles...they are not real tin, they are faux, but i like they way they look. They're also not TIles, THEY ARE SHEETS. I believe i got them at Home Depot or Loews. : ) They are in my garage, not my kitchen, however they are technically for a kitchen back splash.

  47. BETH: thanks so much. I thought about placing those tiles in my kitchen, but I think they'd look better in a large open kitchen....mine is medium sized...

  52. Hi Jennifer :)

Thank you so much for your sweet compliments!

Talk about a fanastic project... This one is absolutely brilliant!

As far a sfilling them, I can't remember where I saw it, but in one of my millions of magazines (lol) there were square shelves kind of like this and they stacked the books in each square instead of upright. You may not need as many if you did it that way.

Whatever you do will look fantastic though :)
