ART: Birds Painting

I recently launched another sale with 8 paintings & only 3 are left.

Today I wanted to highlight a piece I've done more than a few times for clients called "Birds".
This painting is one of my favorites & probably one of the prettiest in person. People ask me why this piece costs more than the other large ones...and the reason is because this painting takes around 3-4 days to complete. I literally have to do this piece in layers to make sure it turns out the way I want it.  I also add oils which takes longer to dry. 

Looking at this piece of art, I can picture it in a little girl's room, a home office or even a bedroom! It's versatile & seems to mix well in any space even with the pink colors! This Large BIRDS painting is currently available in my online gallery, see it here.

Hey guys! Great news!!! Have you seen the new Made By Girl site yet?

WE have officially merged Cocoa & Hearts (my original paintings) with Made By Girl!  You can now find all prints & original paintings on one website. This is easier for us, hope it's easier for you too! We have several new pieces that I think you'll want to check out like:

Hi everyone, Sandra from Blasfemmes here! Just thought I’d share a little Valentine’s Day inspiration with you today. Made By Girl + Madewell Event NYC

The Madewell event this past weekend went really well! - I loved meeting new people & seeing lots of you who I know just from my Instagram! My artwork was a hit & one of the favorite were the colorful pineapples!  It was such a fantastic experience doing this pop-up shop & was definitely cool walking in & seeing my art displayed in their store!

The collection on display included art from my Made By Girl shop & original paintings from my online gallery, Cocoa & Hearts.

Natori Event NYC

Last week, I hosted a private shopping event at Natori - where Josie Natori showed up with this amazing outfit from her collection and mingled with guests! I got a chance to show guests my favorite Fall picks & even wore my main pick (see below) to the event! Her line is beautiful, feminine & sophisticated......I'm really looking forward to wearing my Panno Wool Vest again soon!

On that note, I wanted to give you a bit more insight on who Josie is....in case you haven't heard of this fabulous entrepreneur.

Natori was Started in 1977 by Josie Natori, it sells lingerie, sleepwear, dresses and other women's fashion as well as perfume, home furnishings and more in over 15 countries. What's more amazing is the story of Josie Natori, who was the first female to reach the rank of Vice President in the tough investment banking world - she left high finance & went into high-fashion after following her dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

The boutique is located in the Nolita section of Manhattan....and it's a gorgeous space - you won't want to miss visiting her shop! (See full address in photo collage below).

FOOD: crème brûlée

Hi there Made By Girl readers, Amanda here again from the blog A Life Well Lived. Today I am sharing a super easy, super delicious, and naturally gluten-free dessert - my cardamom vanilla crème brûlée. 


More and more I find friends and family not eating gluten or at least trying to limit it (myself included).  But that doesn’t meant they can’t have dessert! So I am always on the lookout for desserts, or any food for that matter, that is naturally gluten free. This crème brûlée is perfect. Using only egg yolks, cream, sugar, and natural flavorings - an ounce of gluten never touches this dessert. 


 Plus I love the way it smells and tastes. Cardamom and vanilla are such a great combination. The warm vanilla compliments the spicy cardamom making a unique and delicious dessert. But best part about this creme brûlée is that it can be any flavor that you want. If you want cinnamon, just replace the cardamom and vanilla bean with a couple cinnamon sticks and let that steep in in the milk and sugar. Or what about coffee - just use to some crushed coffee beans. Or how about orange zest or mint or even basil. The list could go on. I am going to stick with vanilla and cardamom but feel free to play around with new flavors.  

 And of course a highlight to this dessert is the crunchy burnt sugar on top. If you don’t have a blow torch, you can use the broiler in your oven. 


Cardamom Vanilla Crème Brûlée

5 egg yolks

2 1/2 cups heavy cream

3/4 cups sugar, plus 6 tablespoons, separated  
1/2 vanilla bean split in half and seeded 
3 crushed cardamom pods 
pinch of salt


Preheat the oven to 325°F and arrange the ramekins on a rimmed pan. 

In a medium saucepan over moderately high heat, combine the heavy cream, 1/2 cup of the sugar, the vanilla bean and its seeds,cardamom pods, and the salt.  Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Once sugar is dissolved, bring mixture to a low simmer and simmer for about 30 minutes. 

While the cream is heating, combine the egg yolks with the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and whisk to combine. When cream mixture is ready, gradually add about 1/3 of the hot cream mixture to the yolks, whisking constantly. Once fully combined and the eggs are tempered, add the remaining hot cream mixture and stir to fully combine. Strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean container. Carefully ladle or pour the custard into the ramekins, filling them to the rim.

Place the pan in the oven and carefully pour enough hot water into the pan to come halfway up the sides of the ramekins. Bake until the edges have set but the center still jiggles when the ramekin is gently shaken, 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let cool on a rack for 30 minutes then wrap individually and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

When ready to serve sprinkle the top of each custard with a thin even layer of remaining sugar, using about 1 tablespoon per ramekin. Use a kitchen blowtorch or the broiler to evenly melt and caramelize the sugar. Serve immediately.

FASHION: Minty Spring

Hi everyone! Adri of Adri's World. I have to say, the best part of fashion is the change of seasons, and the colors that come with it. This Spring we will be seeing a lot of pastels & Mint is my favorite. It can be styled with lighter colors for a softer look or with edgy prints like that leopard bag too!

I love that Mint can be worn with gold accents and with silver too, like in those glitter flats. Love!
A blazer can be a great way to add this color to an everyday outfit or maybe a cute top with jeans, a skirt or if it's warm enough shorts. And if you want only a bit of this color, an amazing nail polish, a bracelet or earrings will look perfect!

OFFICE CHIC

Updating the home is awesome, but because I spend most of my days in my home office, it is definitely a MUST-DO this new year. In order for inspiration to flow - I need it to be neat & CHIC. How about you?? 

I put together some of my favorite office accessories - these items will definitely bring a sense of chic to any office. Come on, replace those 1990's vases & lamps, what better way to start then NOW before the new year!! Here are my suggestions for updating your office space:

Happy F-r-i-d-a-y!!!! I've got some exciting news coming soon about a few SUPER cool collaborations I'm working on! Can't wait to tell you guys! In the meanwhile, FALL IS def HERE & I've been thinking about changing a few things in my home & updating the space. Know what I mean??

Like most of you, I search the internet to see if anything would work well with my current decor. I figured some of you may be doing the same in your place.... SO, I put together a few home accessories I thought you'd love! Ok, I CHEATED & included my own black & white 5"x7" LOVE print.

My Office Gallery Wall + Tips

After months of thinking of whether or not I should do a gallery wall in my office, I have officially taken the plunge. I admit, I was inspired by Michelle Adams & her gorgeous NYC bedroom (last photo) and so that led to removing the large piece I had, & incorporating the gallery wall.  For the wall, I used mostly MADE BY GIRL (my own) pieces & some other random photography.  The figure drawings are by Chance Lee - a fantastic artist from Taiwan that I love ......& Kate Moss, well, it was a gift. All the frames you see below can be purchased via my shop. We have gorgeous shiny gold, matte gold, black matte frames & more!

The Kate Moss gold-corner frame was a DIY project we did, which we'll add onto the blog soon!



If you're looking to install a gallery wall,  here's a good way to start:


/// SELECT ART YOU LIKE ///

I decided to add most of my own art, because it inspires me & reminds me to keep creating. You should be able to know what kind of art you'd enjoy looking at everyday. This wall is in my office so it's a wall I look at pretty much ever single day. So, yes, I will be looking at Kate's face on a daily basis...oh well, she's gorgeous right? I find that mixing word art with photographic ones gives the space a lot of interest. You may want to do something similar or just choose to add personal photos of your family & so on. For me, I'm  not big on personal photos all over our apartment & neither is my husband. We prefer random art over personal shots. We tend to keep those to a minimum. But remember, select art that inspires, makes you smile, and that you love.

MADE BY GIRL offers a variety of gorgeous custom frames. You can order them on their own from my shop or add it to the artwork before checkout. Custom framing looks amazing & is pricier, but if you're on a budget - you can always try IKEA.  They have a variety of sizes for under $200.

Think about where you want to place each piece of art.  See what pieces look good next to each other & try not to place all similar colors & styles together. As you can see, both my black prints are away from each other. This creates a more balanced look. Also, the higher you place the gallery on the wall, the taller the space will feel. Drawing a diagram with proper measurements on a piece of paper will really help keep you organized. Feel free to play around with different arrangements, that's what we did. You can cut-out shapes of each frame by using poster board and tape each one onto the wall where you will place the artwork.  This is a great way to move the shapes around & get an idea of what it will look like before committing to anything. Remember, you don't want a bunch of extra holes in the wall. Have fun!
