Earth Hour 2008

Join me and millions around the world on March 29th for Earth Hour 2008.  When you turn off your lights ON 3/29th for an hour you are making a statement about climate change. The first Earth Hour started last year in Sydney, Australia and had the effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for an hour. Impressive what we can accomplish when we try.  This year it will be a global event. Check out the Earth Hour site and sign up to show your support just like I did!

Of course you CAN help.....

In order to keep decorating our homes, we need to make sure we're still alive. I realize that everyone will not be able to do everything 100%, but a good chunk of it can be quite helpful against the effects of Global Warming. Some things you can do:

  • unplug un-used electronics

  • use compact flourescent bulbs

  • adjust Your Thermostat

  • change the AC Filter

  • take shorter Showers

  • buy a Hybrid car

  • replace Old appliances

  • inflate your Tires

  • landscaping your home for Energy efficiency

Much more at: Global Warming. Also, a good book: Climate change begins at home. You can also buy Interesting Bracelets in many different colors and 100% of the proceeds go to Global warming fund. They're so cute and made from scrap leathers!

Our beautiful Earth in trouble

EARTH DAY came and went as it does every year, but this year it triggered a lot of emotional feelings in me. After viewing "An inconvenient truth" last year and shows on the discovery channel about global warming, I feel an obligation to do something. We can't deny that global warming is in effect and we're feeling the results of what we've created here on our planet (with snow falling for the first time in Japan in over 130 yrs and here in Vegas when it rarely EVER snows). We need to stop worrying about flickers in lights and humming sounds, and place as many of these ENERGY efficient bulbs throughout our homes. I purchased a few of them yesterday and placed them in & will purchase more the end of this month. The bulbs i purchased from WalMart do not make any noise or flicker. I agree, they're more expensive but last so much longer and will decrease your energy bill. Did you know over its lifetime, one compact fluorescent bulb prevents 1,000 - 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from heating the atmosphere. So, if we all replaced five of our high-use household incandescents with compact flourescents we'd collectively prevent "more than one trillion pounds of greenhouse gases" from entering the air. I think that is a huge improvement! Hope this will inspire you all to take action while decorating your homes. Join the Global Warming Virtual March.
