Yup, that's right. Ever paint a sofa?!?!?
Sometimes I receive submissions for DIY projects that blow me away, this is a DIY that did just that.
Bethy who blogs over at I Just Love Today - decided to take on a weekend project by painting a sofa she bought on Craigslist for $75!
Below, she summarizes how she did it.
I just used a generic Walmart brand of paint in a color they matched from a pricier brand. The color they matched it to is: Glidden Rainforest Fern. There are plenty of other colors but I wanted a warmer tone of green!
If you'd like more in depth info or have any questions, visit Bethy's blog & email her there! Hmmm I'm totally inspired now....since my sofa is WHITE!!!
If you'd like to try something like this, here's what you'll need for this entire project:
- Latex Semi-gloss paint
- Fabric/Textile Medium
- Scented paint additive (Glade French Vanilla)
- Paint brush
Have a lovely weekend everyone!!

What happens when you sit on it with something white? Hope you don't sweat or drop water on it!
ReplyDeleteLove the colour she chose! And totally gushin' over her living room decor and painted floors. Beautiful ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is one awesome $75 couch...I love CG! I have seen this painting technique before and think it is pretty interesting..I would totally attempt it if I needed to redo a lighter colored piece of furniture!
ReplyDeleteGreat color choice. I wonder what it looks like close up.
ReplyDeleteWow! I would never think to paint a couch, but this color is fantastic! She did a great job!

Never knew you could paint a couch! Seems like it would loose it's softness. Like, I wouldn't want to lay my face on it! Love the color though! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - that looks amazing! Love it!

If I thought it would work I would absolutely do it! But I am completely clueless and craft-impaired :-P
ReplyDeleteI would be interested to see how long to paint lasts and how well it wears?
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. I would do this.
ReplyDeleteI actually did paint fabric...I have a bench in my hallway and I painted the wood gold, fabric hot pink and cording white...it's stiff...i wouldn't do it on a functional piece, but since this piece is just for decorative purposes I went for it...
ReplyDeleteI honestly did not know you could paint a sofa like that! :-) WOW! Thanks for sharing!

i've painted fabric on a chair http://fauxtreschic.blogspot.com/2011/10/danishmid-century-chair-makeover.html and i love my chair. I did however use new fabric and some different methods but i think i'll try this next time i consider it!

Love love love this idea!
ReplyDeleteWow Brilliant work! If it was me I would just threw it and get a new one but that is really creative :)
ReplyDeleteWhy is that no one said brilliant, yet? :D
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT!
I just finished painting an ugly orange wingback chair red to match my foyer using leftover paint and fabric medium. It looks great and I got it done for far less than it would have cost to reupholster.
ReplyDeleteTo be totally honest, the fabric doesn't feel good to the touch but nobody sits in it much anyway!
Ok that is totally genius! I would have thought you need to reupholster the whole sofa, which is so costly but for 75 bucks that is brilliant

Pretty darn amazing....love the color.....
ReplyDeleteSomeone just pointed me here. Looks awesome! I painted two chairs and blogged about it about it a while back. I have numerous examples on my blog, actually! Check them out!!
ReplyDeleteDoes it not feel stiff or crunchy for lack of a better word when you sit on it?
