If you remember, I mentioned that I had purchased this headboard from West Elm. Well, we knew that it would look TOO LOW with our pillow top mattress, so we took matters into our own hands and designed a headboard extension for it! It isn't perfect, but it definitely did the job! Hopefully, you can see past the WRINKLED sheets... hence the reason why I said I need fitted sheets.
So, as you can see the West Elm headboard was ELEVATED onto a headboard extension to make it appear higher...(11 1/4" to be exact). Using 1" boards, we made a box just like the one at the bottom of the headboard and mounted the headboard on top of it. We then patched off the small openings on the original headboard with a couple of small pieces of ivory leather we bought on Ebay.
cushions on bed are from fabricadabra, pier 1,
and high street market.
By the way the paint in my room is NOT black, it's actually called Turret Stair by Ralph Lauren Paints. You can also see the color here more accurately.

I'm also looking to buy a pair of nightstands and came across these from World Market. They're a little plain, but I think I can manage to spruce them up with some interesting hardware.

ReplyDeleteI like the Z Gallerie lamp. You could always spray the chrome base gold. And maybe add a little gold ribbon to the shade? OR try Overstock.
PS- I thought the NY gift fair was kind of a letdown. Then again I didn't have time to check out stationary/graphic design stuff- which I'm sure you would have enjoyed!
JEANNETTE: Thank you! OXOX!
ReplyDeleteLove the room. You could even paint a similar pattern to the cushions on the drawer front on the night stands and add some nice shiny handles to complement the decor.
ReplyDeleteLove the bedroom. I've been looking for a dark headboard with a built in light, our hotel in Cozumel had a beautiful lighted headboard and I can't get that "look" out of my mind!
ReplyDeleteGreat tables! I actually have two of them on each side of my bed as well but in a very dark chocolate color. The tables are super sturdy and well made. You'll be happy with them if you choose them!
ReplyDeleteI actually have these tables as well, but they are in a dark walnut color.
ReplyDeleteThey are great tables. Very sturdy and well made for the price along with a nice deep drawer to use for storage.
I'm sure you'd be very happy with them if you got them! And your room looks great!
Such a smart idea and great DIY work! I love the color of your bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea on the West Elm headboard, I want to do the same, so I am using your photo as my inspiration. Can you tell me with the headboard raised now, how tall is it now? With it being raised, is the un-tufted lower part of the headboard exposed a little now or does the mattress covers it? I'm still trying to figure out the dimensions so your feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!
ReplyDeleteHi, May I ask where did you get the lamp? THX
