My Louis chairs arrived from my upholsterer, Alex Rivas, yesterday....woo hoo! I was so thrilled to finally get them!! They did a great job & I can't wait to pair these chairs up with a NEW table! I'm pretty much decided on the Flatiron table from Restoration Hardware, (even though it's on back order until end of Sept.).
I really think the pairing of solid reclaimed elm doors and cast metal on the Flatiron table (see pic of table below) along with newly upholstered new chairs will look quite interesting!
On a SAD note, my upholsterer's shop BURNED DOWN a few weeks BEFORE I brought my chairs in, but they are currently working out of a temporary space. They also lost one of their dogs in the FIRE along with their entire business. It's so heartbreaking and I wish them the best. Alex & his partner, Perry both run Alex Rivas Upholstery here in Nevada & they are affordable and highly professional. I highly recommend them for upholstery work.
You can visit their site here to see what their shop used to look like. They're also the ones who upholstered my white PROVINCIAL SOFA you see on my blog banner!
What do you think so far?? I'd love to hear your comments.

I have to admit, I was VERY inspired by Robert & Cortney's kitchen dining table & chairs. I knew I wanted something WHITE that would wipe down easily, so I decided on an off-white pleather for the chair seat. I believe it's also what they have on their chairs (according to an interview I read).
It's just EASIER to wipe down, I love it! I chose brass nail heads for my chairs, I thought it gave it a slight vintage feel.

You asked for my opinion...First off I was going to say you were nuts! (in the most kindest way ;))
ReplyDeleteThen I read the word 'pleather' Oh! thank goodness. Easy to wipe down but watch out for pointy objects!

ReplyDeleteThey are stunning, Jenn your dining room is gonna be killer!!
ReplyDeleteThe chairs look great, and they did such a nice job. I feel so sorry for their loss.
ReplyDeleteA thought about the table...it's really terrific looking. My only concern would be the texture of the finish. I often like to use my dining room table for projects, and would prefer a smooth surface on top...not sure if that would be a concern for you too.
So Beautiful!!! I love your blog and loved your white chairs...I live em Brazil and you are a inspiracion for me. Kisses in your heart!
ReplyDeleteHEATHER: Thanks! I don't really i tend to use it for anything else, except to dine. I can however polyurethane the top or something else that may smooth it out. But i like the industrial/rustic look :)
ReplyDeleteI love that those chairs are kid friendly since they can quickly be wiped down I might have to consider pleather as well when I buy/reupholster new dinning chairs.
ReplyDeleteLOVE them! amazing.
ReplyDeletei am heartbroken to hear that they lost their dog in the fire :( shari
Wow Jen, the chairs look really stunning! and I think they will look fab with the table. I like the combination of the light and dark, rough and smooth (table and leather on the chairs). Very chic!!

ReplyDeleteWhat do I think? I think they look fan-blimin-tastic. They are somewhat similar to my own dining chairs that I upholstered which is probably why I love yours so much:o) I went for pale grey vinyl with silver studs. They are a breeze to keep clean You're going to love yours!SPECTACULAR.

ReplyDeletei love the new re-upholstered chairs!!! love the brass details too:)
ReplyDeleteYour chairs look great! Do you have any tips about founding a good upholstering company?
ReplyDeletejust so lovely.
ReplyDeleteSECOND HAND TO MY HAND: I would suggest that you ask your friends to see if they know any upholstery shops and if they recommend them. I found alex rivas through a friend who had work done by them.
ReplyDeleteI would also look online for reviews- some websites provide those sources so you can be a bit choosier. Hope this helps!
The chairs turned out fab! And that table. .. SWOON! Can't wait to see it all together.
ReplyDeleteWhat paint did you use to paint the chairs. I am just going to start on mine!
ReplyDeleteLAURA Allyn:
ReplyDeleteThe paint I used was Behr latex interior ansd zinnser primer, but oil based paints will last longer if you prefer oil.
You can get Oil paints by Frazee or Benjamin Moore ... :)
Good luck!
the giant white vase that is on always on Bob and Cortney's kitchen table....LOVE IT! I wonder where one could fine a vase that cool and that BIG!
ReplyDeleteIt's just the greatest thing.
