BUT..... before I go, I wanted to let you in on what's been happening around here within the last couple of days. We've been working on my master closet....well, we actually have 2 master closets, one for my guy & one for me.
Of course mine is the LARGER one.... we always get the bigger closet, don't we ladies??? However, most of my shoes & handbags are STILL lying around because we're looking to build some shoe & handbag shelving to the left hand side of my new IKEA closet.
The units were installed thanks to my hubs, he's so handy. Also, I'd like to thanks the CROOKED WALLS (see above), which made sure the end piece wasn't flushed up against the right hand side! Luckily, it secures to the back wall. Also, you may notice the slight gap on the left, that WILL be covered up with a special piece IKEA sells.
I'm thinking of staining the SHOE shelves (still need to buy) the same color as the IKEA closet system we bought. Maybe even adding some wallpaper behind the shelves??? I'm still undecided. However, we're definitely adding a recessed light, a runner (maybe zebra/leopard print) as well as the chandelier for a more GLAM look! Sorry it's not as bright, it should be illegal not to have a skylight in a closet, I swear!!
What do you think so far??
The UGLY white racks are ALL coming out as well. Below to the left is where we'll be adding shelving for shoes & handbags. Woo Hoo!

ReplyDeleteWhenever I go to Ikea I always drool over the closets! Yes WE DO ALWAYS GET THE BIGGER ONES DON'T WE! I know I can't wait to move into our home so I can hook mine up too! LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI think is going to look awesome, I also custom made an Ikea closet for me and I LOVE it, aren't they great? By yhe way, love the fabric on your chair ;)
ReplyDeleteWOW your closet is sooo big!!! Omg! I love the fixtures in it & ooo you have pretty shoes! Happy New Year!!! I hope the table comes in nicely!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your inspiration this year!! I took one of your simple desk table inspirations & I'm so happy I did! See ya next year! =)
Your closet is beautiful and I'm so jealous! We've actually been trying to decide what to do with our mess of a master closet and think your solution might work for us, too. Would you mind telling me the dimensions of your closet? I fear it's wider than ours and the ikea wardrobes won't fit. Thanks and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! The shoe and handbag storage will finish it off beautifully.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I see a closet makeover I get jealous and yours is no exception- it's going to be gorgeous and hello fabulous footwear- your collection of heels and boots is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing!! Can't wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your closet. My tiny walk-in still has those white rods, cannot wait to do a custom system.

Love it, love it, love it !!
ReplyDeleteYou should invest in some chrome hangers or wooden hangers [if you haven't already]it makes a big difference in the space. Can't wait to see when it's all done.
Have a safe and happy New Year Jen!
That is going to be the best Christmas gift to yourself! What a way to start the new year off right. It looks like it will be fab.
ReplyDeleteArent IKEA closets just the best? I'm so jealous. It looks great so far.
ReplyDeletePS Love the aqua shoes in the last pic!
Sigh, to have such closet space! Good on ya!
ReplyDeleteLove your new closet! Adding wallpaper behind the shelves gets my vote. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLOVE! I think this is every girls dream!
ReplyDeleteAnd umm..I'm drooling over every single pair of shoes you own!
LOVE! Enjoy the new year in with your man & beautiful home. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year Jen!!!
ReplyDeleteOmg my sister has the same one! But she didn't keep it organized, and it looks like a mess! I can't wait to see it once it's complete.
ReplyDeleteYour closet looks amazing! Thanks for the inspiration to re-think my closet!
ReplyDeletelooks great already! where did you find that adorable chandelier? happy new year!
ReplyDeleteIt is looking fabulous! Lucky you! The chandelier is the perfect crowning glory! I am also eyeing those zebra pumps! Happy New Year to you, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI think that if the bottom white wall trimming is removed from the right side where the shelf is not lining up it should fix the problem.
ReplyDeleteAfter the shelf is lined up all the way to the wall a smaller trim might have to be cut and put back where the shelf doesn't cover the wall.Just so the wall won't look funny with a missing piece of white trimming.
PS. Your closet is going to look FAB!
I am so jealous! Enjoy your table...closet...kitchen...guy and the end of the year! Looking forward to following along in 2011! xo
ReplyDeleteLove the closet. I wish my 50s ranch had that kind of closet space.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, Jen! How lucky are you to have such a handy husband : ) And you MUST do the leopard runner — the perfect finishing touch!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous! Would love a walk-in. It's looking great. We're about to do a second built-in wardrobe for our apartment in our guestroom, which will be bigger than the one I share with my husband in our bedroom. So now my dilemma is, do I switch closets and have extra space but need to get ready in the guest room every time? Hmm, decisions decisions!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work and enjoy all that space you have there. Happy new year. x

ReplyDeleteSo jealous. Love the light fixture. I have a wonderful large closet, but my hubby actually has more stuff than me! His things are slowly creeping onto my side. Would love to re-do but since we are renting I can only change the fixture and paint {haven't done either and the eggplant purple is starting to bother me}
ReplyDeleteIt's going to turn out amazing! Love the light fixture. And your kitchen is looking fab as well.
ReplyDeleteP.S. About the fur pillow/throw. When I saw them in store it didn't seem like the fur came off easily but it is definitely a good point. Will have to investigate further :)
That is one fierce shoe and handbag collection lady!
ReplyDeleteCloset looks great. In my former house, my husband and I had separate closets which I LOVED!!! Mine was indeed slightly larger and had a window - his end wall held his tie collection - worked out just perfectly. We now share a large unwieldy closet with angled walls that isn't as ideal - but the bedroom is lovely - always a trade off!!
ReplyDeleteYour closet is an absolute treat. I wish I had a huge closet to put all my (overflowing) stuff in! hehe ~amanda (lace&tea)
ReplyDeleteThats one great closet you have here, next home I will definitely build around my grande piano AND my clothes... LOL.
ReplyDeleteand by the way Jen, thank you for making the year 2010 more interesting for me, hope you will have a rocking new years eve party and see you next year! xo, Kat

I love the photo with the black and white patterned chair with the black and white patterned bags on it. I have a black and white themed birthday party, and I think I am going to have to a centerpiece with black and white patterned bags and shoes with maybe a few red gerbera daisies to make it all pop. Thanks for the inspiration! http://birthdaypartybabble.com

ERIKA: The closet dimensions are-
ReplyDelete12'4" X 4' 3"
OMG DREAM CLOSET!!! I've got an entire room ...well, office/closet and I still haven't figured out how to get it how I want it - a year later! Love the chandelier ...it's gonna look so fab!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I'm about to embark upon the dreaded "closet clean out of 2011" to make room for my husband in MY closet. BAH. I guess that's what needs to happen when you're having a baby in a 2 bedroom condo! The horror.
ReplyDeleteMRSO: I got the chandelier at a local antique shop here in town....they had a few different ones, but this one really stood out the most to me. :)
ReplyDeleteMAGS ARTWORK: Yup, I'll be working on the trimming...thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVELY LITTLE NEST: Not sure which white mirror your talking about...maybe the coral looking one in my foyer??? If so, its' from Ballard Designs.
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE: Thanks soooo much for all the HAPPY NEW YEAR WISHES!! I am still working on the closet and will have pics when ready! :)))))
ReplyDeleteI think you are a very lucky girl I wish my closet were bigger!
ReplyDeleteHigh Shine Black Buffet!! Happy New Year!

I was out of town and missed your end of year sale! Will you offer another discount code soon?
ReplyDeleteYour closet is coming along great. My closet is mega small and already has built-in to hang clothing and shelves (not wire)...but I will have to share these pics and your ideas with my sister whose home is 3800 square feet and her master closet is as big as my master bedroom (im not exaggerating). I know she wants to create a much more custom look and feel for her closet. She has some built-ins but she needs more.
ReplyDeleteGood job on your closet! I happen to own Storage by Design (you can like us on Facebook) and we specialize in creating efficient custom closets. In light of the fact that you've used modulars here, I think you've done a great job of putting together a well functioning closet! Hooray!
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero. I look at your blog and try to update my home with what I have because money is tight. Keep up the wonderful work and I would love to win that organizing system. I am a organizing addict.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late to this post but I decided to comment here rather than your finish master closet. Just like your insights before, I want to have a closet that has more shelves for my accessories and so on. Now my shoes lies on the floor with their boxes and my bags at the bottom of my cabinets. How sad isn't it? I wish I could able to fix this one before the year end.
ReplyDeleteJust like you hoping that after fixing, it will be a glam one..hooray! Congrats to your finish closet! It's an inspiration most especially the chandelier looks fab!
I'm having a back track of your post that's why. Seeing what I miss. Thanks Jen for an inspiration and idea.:)
Hello! I enjoy your blog every single day! Can you tell me a little about your white chair? Antique? I love the fabric on it!
