And.... we are back! Thanks to all of you who left comments as well as tweets & emails wishing me a Happy New Year! We went out to eat a steakhouse near the strip & then headed home at around 10:45pm to catch the fireworks from our upstairs balcony! Luckily we have a great view of the strip.
So, tell me how did you spend your New Year??
Also, our ZGallerie dining table finally arrived! We ordered it back in October & it had been on back order, but it is now here safe & sound...ready for some upcoming dinner parties! I shot these pics earlier today so you could see the progress. The table is a really solid piece but I warn you, it has a ton of screws...
In the meanwhile, I'll be SEARCHING for a dining room buffet piece. It'll end up going underneath the large black & white painting to sort of fill in the space.
I admit, I HAVE NO IDEA what type of buffet to get!
If anyone has any SUGGESTIONS on what type of buffet or color & so on, please feel free to comment.

Sounds like a nice way to see the New Year in. I went on a last minute road trip to the beach which was really nice. Love your dining table too!
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see your space as it evolves! I love the mirrored buffets, but that may not be the look you're going for. I'm sure you'll find the perfect one!
ReplyDeletexo Mary Jo
congrats! looks fab! i was originally thinking a dark brown buffet would look great...but then i thought maybe a cool silver piece (to bring in the stainless from your kitchen). if i find anything i'll send it your way!
ReplyDeleteps. we had the same view for new year's...haha. hopefully see you next time i'm in your 'hood!
xo,
joann
We spent the night watching the "big" fireworks going off by the Bay Bridge from our roof top.
ReplyDeleteI love the dining room it looks fab! Such a long time to wait ;( Your Boxer dog is so cute and funny - curious creatures.
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling over your home! It's so crisp, clean, & airy! Congrats on the new table! What if you got a silver leaf buffet? I think it'll flow with the white palette.
ReplyDeletePerfect. SO pretty in the space and with the chairs and chandelier. I forget, where is the chandy from? Sorry, I'm sure you've mentioned it a few times.
ReplyDeleteAs for buffet, my initial thought was this piece.
http://www.mad4milo.com/Mad4milo/Storage.html#21
No idea how much it costs, but I love it long time.
Jen it looks amazing! I bet you are so excited! I just adore your artwork and the zigzag rug-- they add so much personality to your space! I also LOVE how all of the light fixtures work together... they look lovely!
ReplyDeleteabodelove.blogspot.com
The dining table is lovely. Surprisingly New Year's was quite relaxing!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks really gorgeous- I love how your dining room chandlier plays off the pendants in the kitchen- so so pretty. I'll put my thinking cap on re: buffet- my first thought is definitely something light and airy and modern/clean lined I think.
ReplyDeleteTable looks amazing. Love the contrast with the white and the not matchy matchy look. I will have to go through the rest of the house to get a sense of your style. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat table! I kind of like the idea of a low black or dark brown buffet, but a bright colour would look great too!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh I love your dining area!
ReplyDeleteour New Years was simple - a small get together at our home with just a few family members
happy 2011 :)
BEAUTIFUL table!
ReplyDeleteI spent my New Year's in New York City with my best friends. Couldn't ask for a better celebration.
I'm almost positive I've said this before...but I'm in love LOVE with your floors. What kind of wood is it?
ReplyDeleteHi Jen!
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen renovation and was just wondering if I could borrow some of the pictures to post on my blog (citonamarie.blogspot.com)?
Happy New Year!
CITONA MARIE; Yes, you can use the images as long as you link back and credit the source. Thank you! :)))
ReplyDeletei love boufe on a sweet honey colour wood.
ReplyDeletei think it could look beautiful there!
happy new year!

I would think a mirrored piece or something in a single favorite pop of color.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2011!

looks so smart!
ReplyDeleteplease add something rugged and rusty.
like a dirty turquoise side board that looks like it's been sweating on the bottom of the ocean for 50 years. it WILL be your conversation piece and make all of the clean whiteness look like a shot straight out of domino mag. RIP.
Love the dark wood floors! Your home is gorgeous!

Target has a mirrored console table that is cheap and perfect!
ReplyDeleteHey! Love your new table. Where is your zig zag rug from? I've been looking for something like that. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJen,
ReplyDeleteI think something like this would look fantastic in your dining room! It's by Room Service I think? Gorgeous!

I SO agree on the rustic and organic! Mix it up some and add character and texture. Something woodsy and beat up or something old and vintage. Nothing from Z Gallerie, West Elm, Ikea or Crate and Barrel. ;)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely GORGEOUS! I Love the clean feel of it. As for the buffet, you can go with a modern look http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=20316&catalog=room&category=rm_dining_spaces&subcategory=din_cabinet_stor this in dark walnut or a glam look http://www.highfashionhome.com/elisabeth-buffet.html or http://www.tonichome.com/catalog.php?item=445&catid=13&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D13. So many buffet options!
ReplyDeleteI would say something airy and witha mix of wood metal to flow between the kitchen and the brown table, maybe a metal that seems a bit rusty but with grey-ish metal parts
ReplyDeleteWhat about something like this?

or this

ReplyDeleteNYE I too went for steak & then a lounge to hear house music...
I love how restrained and airy your new place is! Your kitchen turned out really well too.
ReplyDeleteThat looks really really good! I knwo this is what you have been told but...really...it looks so good! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that painting on your wall. Do you mind telling me who it's by?
ReplyDeleteYour house is looking FANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteCan I feature it on COCOCOZY or would you ever have time to do a guest post?
Wow! Really wonderful. From floor to ceiling and everything in between...great!
Coco
I love the openness of that space and the fact that you can see all the way from the living room to the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, just gorgeous!
ReplyDeletegoodgirlgoneglad.com
Jen, it is looking so beautiful! I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteMARIAN: The floor is actually engineered - it's a greener option that I chose. Its a hand scraped floor...by Provenza Antico , model = vintage.
ReplyDeleteVEGGIE GIRL: luck you...! I love NYE in NYC...!!
ReplyDeleteJAMIE OF ALL TRADES: The zig zag rug is by west elm... :)
ReplyDeleteFAIZAN: Thanks! That's what I like best, the openness of the space. :)
ReplyDeleteCOCCOZY: Yes, email me more info on what you'd like....and if you have any questions to ask etc. jen(at)madebygirl.com
ReplyDeleteLove the new table! I think a vintage dresser painted white or bright color would work nicely with the chairs...Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Katie
JANINE JACKSON: It's an aboriginal painting by artist, Janet Golder
ReplyDeleteit looks sooo great! also loving the closet :-) gooo girl!
ReplyDeleteGosh I love it! Those chairs are perfect with that table. We are currently looking into changing our flooring and I love yours. Is that real wood or laminate?
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen came out fantastic! I'm going to post your project on my blog www.studio-stella.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteAs for a buffet, I just saw this in the cb2 catalog. Its a totally unexpected find at cb2, doesnt seem to fit the style of the store.
http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=118&f=6306
Gorgeous. COLOUR OR MIRRORED.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for a buffet table too -- on the hunt. You might look at Ballard Design's Benedetta console table.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to spice things up and you like antique lime, check this one out:
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Lime-Green-Sofa-Table/5121732/product.html?rcmndsrc=2
Love your choices so far!
I would purchase a sideboard off of Craigslist and paint it a fun color, something bright and cheerful. I love Scandinavian Chic's sideboard painted hot pink...it's gorgeous and I think would look awesome in your space too. Awesome dining table and still lovin' those chairs..I search Craigslist in DC for similar ones all of the time because mine aren't the most comfortable. Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE THE TABLE!
ReplyDeleteHere are some buffet ideas at good prices:
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Red-4-door-Cabinet/5216539/product.html?rcmndsrc=2
The red would look FABULOUS with the brown and white. Ugh, I am already jealous if you get this red side board!! Also, imagine a fabulous mirror or great modern print set above it...
This would be awesome, though not as much storage:
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Lime-Green-Sofa-Table/5121732/product.html?rcmndsrc=2
And finally, Little Green Notebook did a great post recently on a way to dress up an ikea piece, which you could buy in a different color or paint:
http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2010/12/trimmed-out-ikea-besta.html
Any of these would be totally fabulous. I want your dining set!!!
You have no idea how much I love looking at how lovely your new home is coming together. A buffet would work and look perfect under that painting. The contrast between the dark wood and clean lines of the dinning table are a gorgeous contrast to the white rococo inspired chairs. Lovely.
ReplyDeletethese may be to shabby chic (could also be more eclectic) someone referenced turquoise, here is something:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.etsy.com/listing/65189126/turquoise-dressersideboard?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_query=sideboard&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=&includes[0]=tags&includes[1]=title&filter[0]=handmade
someone referenced silver, here is something:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/64238700/new-arrival-elegant-french-provincial?ref=sr_gallery_12&ga_search_query=sideboard&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=&includes[0]=tags&includes[1]=title&filter[0]=handmade
more eclectic:

a lighter wood color to set off the dark features of the room:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/56083925/solid-cherry-credezna?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search_query=sideboard&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=3&order=&includes[0]=tags&includes[1]=title&filter[0]=handmade
(you could paint it a fun color like turquoise, ralph lauren has a great emerald green as well)
When I look at your space with regard to the buffett I'm inclined to think of something unexpected. I'll throw these out to you:
ReplyDelete1) A Laquered piece in an unexpected colour. Red or Tourquoise
2) Select a "found" architectural piece or industrial piece and have a custom buffett fabricated.
3) Peruse Layla Grace and look at options.
4) An antique french/italian buffett may fit the bill as well. One with a nice patina.
Can't wait to see what you select, as it will be perfect!

ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing...love following along as you decorate!!
ReplyDeleteLove how everything's coming together! For buffet suggestions, this would look pretty sweet, http://bit.ly/i46GZd, in either white or espresso, with a pair of these lamps http://bit.ly/emSVjW. Good luck in finding the perfect piece :) {P.S. - I noticed the coral bowl I sent you from my shop...looks great filled with oranges!}
ReplyDeletexoxo - Julie
I don't have any buffet suggestions (I'm really not very good at that), but I have to say that the chairs and table are a dream. It's so cold here where I live (9 degrees F on New years Eve night) that we had no fireworks. By I cuddled with my guy by the fireplace. So nice.
ReplyDeleteI think a glass/acrylic/perspex buffet would work best, because you already have a lot of dark wood and solid materials, so you need something light/transparent to lift the space :)
ReplyDeleteYou´ve got a really beautiful home. Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous gorgeous space!!! I spent my New Year's Eve in Italy in a small restaurant in the Apls eating my weight in pasta with my boyfriend and best friend... qite idillic really :)

P.S: I'm giving away a 2011 Fashion Tote with MiuMiu, Chanel... etc illustration... I thought you might be interested! ;)
Your house is looking fabulous! xx
ReplyDeleteYour home is looking beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA solid weathered reclaimed wood buffet ( a pale grayish hue with oil and wax finish only) would bring a refreshing organic texture to break up your current finished black and white scheme. Try restoration hardware or wisteria?
This is looking incredible! And, I just bought that same tray on your table for a client yesterday.
ReplyDeleteYou could totally go bold w/ the buffet. I would pull a color out of the painting (is there hot pink or am I imagining it?) and re-do some cool mid-century style dresser there. Pink may be too much, but you know what I mean :)
Have a great day!,
Emily
Hi! your home is lovely, you ´ve done a great job...for the dining buffete, I visualize a mirrored one...here some ideas:
ReplyDeletehttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3354/3291791972_a052fa579d.jpg
http://cdn.decorpad.com/photos/2009/03/11/75379980d4ca.jpg

http://www.mirrorsontheweb.com/prodimages-cdls/bas/bas-8311-576-L.jpg
I think it has the charm of the classical (for its shape), so it should go perfectly with your chairs. Good luck :) I hope you find the perfect one!
looks gorgeous! loving how you are making your home, well a home.
ReplyDeletelove it Jen! your place is really coming together
ReplyDeleteJen! Love the space. I vote for a mirrored piece. You can do it! xo
ReplyDeletelovely!!! happy new year to you!
ReplyDeleteLove your style Jen! I'm loving the industrial look of this console table from Restoration Hardware http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1608065&categoryId=cat1544013
ReplyDeleteSorry for the crazy long link :)
I am obsessed with your dining room and kitchen... love the white mixed in with the dark wood - looks so clean and open!
ReplyDeleteI think a large campaign dresser would look fab or a statement piece to really stand out and accent the space, rather than bled in.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a buffet in a gold, or a bold color to off set the white. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteElle magazine should be knocking on your door to publish your house, it´s gorgeous now.
Well done, hugz
beaulifestyle.blogspot.com
Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your new house!! I find we have similar design taste. Keep the pictures coming, love them!
ReplyDeleteLove the chandelier in the dining room!!!
ReplyDeletelove the style and look you have going on!
ReplyDeleteeverything looks really fantastic! i especially love the kitchen makeover :)
ReplyDeletewould you be opposed to adding a rug in your dining area(under table)-maybe the cowhide rug there?
it would maybe help delineate the rooms.
Perhaps a laquered buffet in a bright color?
just suggestions, i'm no expert :)
looks amazing so far!
Jen, everything looks so gorgeous.. you have really done a fabulous job! So inspiring! xo
ReplyDeleteI loved the paint you have behind the dining table!
ReplyDeleteDid you make it?
Your house looks LOVELY!
xx,
A.
Hi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI've been following for a while...but never commented before.
Your place started to come together beautifuly.
maybe you should you a bold color for the buffet that would compliment the painting on the other side of the room, or use a piece with metal studs to compliment that beautiful chandelier.
even better just combine the two ideas together; a piece with a bold color and studs.
Maria

The house looks gorgeous. You must be thrilled with the dining table.. Wonderful blog. Carla
ReplyDeleteEMK: Yea i know...I thought about that, just havent really found a cowhide large enough to fit and not mess with the chairs... :))) thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen - Happy New Year! Where did you get the white tufted bench between your dining and (I think) living room spaces? I love it.
ReplyDeleteANNE: Got it at http://www.modani.com
ReplyDeleteJust not sure if they carry it anymore. Its a barcelona daybed.
Oh my, your home is drop dead gorgeous! I love the black and white palette! i think you need a large substantial piece as a sideboard, something rustic, large chunky wood or bright!
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING all of your style! I am redecorating this year... can you come help me??? :)
ReplyDeleteYou ned a pop of color. I'm partial to yellow, turquoise and of course orange.
ReplyDeleteIkea's Trollsta comes in yellow
Or you could rehab a craigslist find and paint it the color of your choice
Or if you are going neutral something like this:
http://www.roomservicestore.com/store/credenzas_and_dressers/macascar_credenza_3_drawer_white.html
Very clean and so refreshing to walk-in, sit with. Very simple and peaceful to stay. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love your home and your personal art pieces add such a great touch! I can totally see a buffet from a great company that makes funky creative "not cookie cutter" pieces:
