Hide rugs are such a BIG deal in decor....some people like them & some don't. But this post ISN'T about how you feel about them, it's about where to find these rugs for the best prices. I like them & recently purchased one for my own home from a vendor on Ebay. (I think total price came to $210)
Are there any hide rugs in your home? Where did you purchase yours?? Trust me, there are GOOD deals out there, but you really have to make sure you shop around!

Below are a couple of companies that offer hides at reasonable price. You can also find some good deals on Ebay!
Sunland Home Decor
CowHides International
Nilma Rugs
I agree with eBay. Lots of vendors there with good reviews and the prices can't be beat. I troll Craigslist, too, but the pickings are slim in my area.
ReplyDeleteI've actually seen a pretty nice cow hide rug at Ikea! But you really have to go through the pile, every piece is different and some are much better than others. Love hide rugs, it adds a special touch especially paired with something sleek and modern!
ReplyDeletei kind of LOVE the way they look but am always worried about slippage and trippage in reality.
ReplyDeleteThere's some calfskin ones here that are fairly reasonable and awesome

Soo chique- thanks for the post.Elle Decor gets it right every time! My favourite- the toom with the big red piating- am very inspired- might just do a copy of that...
ReplyDeleteI always wanted one but I have two dogs and I think it wouldn't work with them around...hahah
ReplyDeleteKisses
Ps: I really love that look
I love cow hide on everything. eBay is a good bet, and another reader mentioned IKEA. You can get sheepskin rugs there too.

love the look, not sure I would love the feel
ReplyDeleteMe and my husband are in rug business. So I never have to search for rugs:) We are a wholesale company, but we do have an ebay store where we retail them to public w/ free shipping.

I love love love the look of hides! I have two- the first one is a brown/white/black longer hair hide that I have under my kitchen table; I purcahsed it 6 years ago at a local store. I bought the second one a few months ago and I adore it- I paid alot for it ($800 if I remember correctly) but I looked forever for the white/black/grey dapple colouration and couldn't find any that I liked until the one that ended up coming home with me. It was one of my big purchases for the living room but I don't regret it one bit- love it like crazy- definitely would have preferred to have found a great deal on ebay or the like but sometimes, you just have to splurge:) There is a picture of it on my blog with my most favourite piece of furniture(an antique settee)resting comfortably on top.
ReplyDeleteI got mine at Tandy Leather for $150!
ReplyDeleteI am really wanting a cowhide for Christmas! I saw some great priced ones on overstock!!!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see yours!
Luvs!
You will love one! And really the easiest to clean because of the natural fibers. Thanks for the resources--can't believe you have time to blog during a move!
ReplyDeleteThe cowhide and zebra are my favorites. Rugs like these add such a great stylish punch to any room!
ReplyDeleteHi again- it's about 6.5' x 8' and was purchased at Elte- one of my absolute favourite go to stores in Toronto- featured in their newest add campaign is a fuschia pink hide ($995- 5x7)...amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. Perfect timing. I have 2 living rooms that have concrete floors and cowhide rugs look sensational on concrete and I love the shape. I'm an Aussie buyer so I'm not sure if your links will be any good for me but I'll definately jump on e-bay. :) On a completely different topic: I've requested one of your prints for my KK (something affordable but VERY cool! Love it)..... fingers crossed. :)
ReplyDeleteI have one that I scored on craiglist for $50!! It is a traditional black and white cowhide. I didn't need it at the time, but I knew I should snatch it up and I'm so glad I did. It looks awesome under my dining room table, ha!
ReplyDeleteI hate mine in my office, but recently moved it to my bedroom. i love it because it makes a more traditional room funky and ecclectic. we bought ours from a western store outside of town and for only $120. but we live in west texas and they are pretty easy to come by. but yes, do your research. a lot of vendors stain theirs and they are not genuine.
ReplyDeleteI love hide rugs, but seriously have no clue where one would fit in our home.
ReplyDeleteI have three in my home and i'm a big fan of them too! I purchased two of them when we were stationed in Italy and i bought the third online at cowhidesinternational.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI have the same as in the 4th picture. I got it at ABC Carpet and I love it.
BRAND NEW AND BEAUTIFUL: Yea CL would seem impossible for a good hide in my part of town too!
ReplyDeleteLOVE MEAGAN: Just like Jennifer said...there are rug pads for all types of rugs. I use one under my chevron rug and it works great! :)
ReplyDeleteDIANA MIEZCAN: Ha! I have 2 dogs too....but they are pretty good at not damaging furniture items thank God! I think dogs would prefer to lie on the hides...
ReplyDeleteJENNIFER: Great idea...I say go to Ebay first and overstock Im not such a huge fan of. For some reason every time I like something its SOLD out!
ARZU: I tried looking at the link, but no luck...can you post it again please? Id love to check out your items.
CHRISTINE: Yikes! $800...well, I guess it's ok to splurge on one of two items every so often....I mean it is your home and you sleep in it every night right? Its ok to make it look good. :) p.s. Your hide is a pretty good size, that's the size i need.
BRYN: Oh! thanks for the info...I hadn't heard of Tandy leather...
JULIE HOLLOWAY: Oh that's good to know..thanks!! I cant believe i have time to blog either! haha
ELECAT: Ahhhh hope you get it then! :)
STACEY: Ha! I think i'll end up like you too...I have 3 places in mind i want to put them. Under dining, in foyer and in living room area....
So beautiful!!

Speaking of cleaning/care for hide rugs--does anyone know the best method? I've swept but wonder if there's something I could do to really keep her clean!
