Ever since we moved to our new apartment (about a month in a half ago) - we've been sitting on the floor. My back has been KILLING ME & watching tv was a hassle. Amazing.... the things we take for granted.
Now I know how BLESSED we are to say, we FINALLY have our sofa! It's a gorgeous tufted gray velvet beauty from Jayson Home & Garden.
Aaaah, what a great New Year's gift! If you recall, I posted about it here & even ran a poll on my blog for a few weeks asking YOU to choose a color. Even though the charcoal won the poll, I ended up choosing the 2nd favorite - gray! The sofa is called Rockefeller sofa - and it comes in many colors. I've always wanted a velvet sofa & so did my husband, so this was an easy choice. I'm debating on whether to replace the painting over the sofa, to something a little more muted or to match the rug? Hmmm.
What do you think? Of course, I would have to S-E-L-L the painting that's already there if that was the case. Below are some resources for most of the items below.
I know, the kitchen looks BORING, but we like it clutter free.
By the way- the large abstract painting below used to be the large lipstick dots painting- remember? You can see it in my las vegas home.
Please leave a comment - let me know what you think. It's amazing how much can fit into a 975 sq foot NYC apartment! I'll say it before & I'll say it again, we are very blessed & I thank God for the home we have.

your sofa looks so comfortable, and the color is great as well

i love the sofa. a velvet sofa is on my list but i can't decide between grey and navy. i'm slightly leaning toward the navy.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks amazing! I will let you know when I blog about my living room because after seeing your post for you ikea cabinets in your dining room of your former home I did the same thing as an entertainment center. Thanks for sharing...now you get to enjoy it all in the new year!
ReplyDeleteYep, love it :) When I was searching for a sofa I really wanted that exact one in gray but it would have taken 6-8 weeks to receive it and I had company coming from Europe. So I had to buy something that was available for immediately delivery. I love my new sofa but I'm hoping to get the Rockefeller some day :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic sofa. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLILY: Yea i know what you mean...it took about that long with ours, they really did their best to rush it, thankfully. That is why we sat on the floor...ha!
ReplyDeletek I love it! A grey tuxedo sofa is pretty much my number one must have when I get a big enough place, so I'm pinning this! Your whole space looks great, you could be an interior designer! I think the kitchen could use one of your colorful paintings on that back wall. xox Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteTIFFANY LEIGH- aww thank you for the compliment- im flattered! -yea, i think i may add a painting there one if these days...
ReplyDeleteThe room looks amazing- you always manage to get your new places set up quickly. I di dhave a quick question - where did you pick up the black bookcase?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
SEE: yea i like to get things done quickly...my husband doesn't like that so much..ha!
ReplyDeleteAnyhow i think it was from Crate & Barrel, they no longer carry it (i think)- it has glass shelving.
Your new sofa looks amazing and very comfy at the same time. Love the color combo of the grey with the blue rug!
ReplyDeleteThe sofa looks stunning! A grey velvet sofa is on my wish list for when we move into a bigger space! You have done so well making a small space look so stylish and uncluttered! I adore the gold skull on the coffee table, where did you purchase that from? Hopefully they are international shipping friendly.

Your sofa is gorgeous. I love the grey velvet. You do such an awesome job making your apartment look so much bigger than it is. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new sofa. It's absolutely perfect.
ReplyDeleteI would (selfishly) say you should get rid of the painting. I would definitely be interested.
JUDY: I think 'not' adding end tables helps! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your sofa finally arrived. It's worth the wait. I think you'll be much happier with this color rather than the charcoal. It 's beautiful! Maybe it's time to change out your wonderful painting to one that picks up colors from the rug. Or, perhaps toss some throw pillows on the sofa echoing the same colors and the rug and/or picture. Enjoy your new home!

ReplyDeleteI love the sofa - it's gorgeous. And I think it pairs beautifully with the painting. I'd keep it! I love how the little hits of blue in the painting tie into the rug and having something dynamic above and below the sofa really highlights the quiet 'softness' of the sofa (and velvet). I really do think it's fab just the way you have it!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Jen! Hope this will be a fantastic year for you and your hubby. Love the apartment and love the sofa!!! Really nice.
ReplyDeleteHow about a cool (maybe chique snakeskin) wallpaper in the kitchen wall? That way, you can keep it just as uncluttered, but it's still stylish and you have something interesting to look at when you enter the kitchen. (There are even the removable wallpapers out there, n case you're renting and can't DIY too much).
Big hug from Holland,

ReplyDeleteI just started following your blog after coming across it while looking for inspiration for my new bedroom decor. I love it! It's definitely inspiring since bold and modern isn't my usual style, but I got a wild hair, lol. Your new sofa is beautiful as is the rest of your apartment!
ReplyDeleteYour place looks great. I can see why you feel thankful to live there. I actually like the painting with the mix...keeps it fresh and not too contrived. :)

Love!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the sofa. LOVE IT. TO PIECES. However, I am definitely in agreement that you should change out the painting. I love the painting VERRRRYYYYY much but I definitely think it clashes with your new rug a bit. It doesnt look terrible by any means but its just a thought. Maybe add in some emerald green or reds?
ReplyDeleteLooks so good & love the sofa!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year darling to you & the hubby!! Wishing you all the best & God Bless xo
Happy new year! The apartment is great. You always are an ispiration for me in the blog world.
ReplyDeleteLove the sofa style and colour. a great look with the rug and table. The painting doesn't jar, it adds a bit of interest to an otherwise coordinated space, but it's up to you. It's a great painting by the way. Happy decision making! A stunning apartment!
ReplyDeleteThe sofa is gorgeous, and your apartment is looking great especially for living there for such a short time. Love the clutter free kitchen but you need a wallpaper to carry it so it looks finished or a stripe or chevron on the back wall.
ReplyDeleteLove it and all the best for 2013

Your new sofa looks really nice!! I think you should replace the painting above it with one of blue-grey hues. I also have a suggestion for your kitchen wall..if possible concider it painting it black plus add one or two paintings/posters one on top of the other..in that case you will create depth in the space and the backsplash will blend in.
ReplyDeleteLove the sofa and color....Grey is my new obsession....I actually posted about grey wood floors today. Love your apartment and really the sofa makes it.
ReplyDeleteyou always create beautiful homes Jen!
ReplyDeleteit does look amazing! i would change the painting though... congrats on the new home, enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteYes you are very blessed Jen and i love how your apartment look like and every piece you attach to it. Such a nice touch. The phyton bench is to die for!Happy New Year to you and your husband.:)

Your sofa and lounge look fantastic, you've played with the light like a pro and the mixture of colour, texture and pattern is perfectly balanced without looking try hard. In my humble opinion the back wall of your kitchen is crying out for a huge amazing print or painting that incorporates texture, neutral palette, black and metallics and brings both spaces together whilst giving a focus to draw the eye into the kitchen making the space feel bigger. It's looking great xxx
ReplyDeleteLove love love that sofa!! I'm pretty sure I voted for charcoal, but the gray is fabulous!!
ReplyDeletewow looks so so great!! i love that couch and would love to get something similar one day. i like the idea of velvet and tufting is always beautiful. looking good!!

I love your sofa - comfortable, beautiful and elegant.
ReplyDeleteCommenting on my own decor dilemmas, an artist friend once shrugged and said to me - "if you want artwork to match your living room, just hang a picture of your couch on the wall!" I was forever changed...
CWEB: haha that's brilliant...love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. I love the color, texture and scale of everything. The sofa is fantastic! Glad you don't have to sit on the floor anymore. You're very good at mixing items of varying price points so that everything looks luxurious. Well done! Happy New Year!

love, love, love the couch! and yes, the space is great - so hard to organize an nyc apt. I'd def have to add a little more to my kitchen though :-)
ReplyDeleteOK, commenter #83 here! I'm late to the party. Can I just say WOW! It looks great. I love the sofa. Perfect choice.. - Brandy
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sofa. Maybe you're just tired of it, or maybe it looks different in person, but I personally like that picture over the couch. It's a nice contrast to the tailored, greek key patterned rug (and seems to blend in with the colors in the rug). It also adds a little dose of fun "chaos" to the clean, modern white walls.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do it, Jen - this is absolutely beautiful. Loving the various textures in the snakeskin, fur pillows, and painting - somehow they all just go together in a perfectly artistic way. So inspired right now!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a beautiful new addition. Really love all the decorative touches, cushions and the all round casual glam.
ReplyDeletegorgeous! are the roses fresh or silk?
ReplyDeletei always have fresh flowers, but that can be costly... just wondering.
the sofa is stunning!
CHIMMY: They are fresh flowers...although i think if you find a good silk option, you should def invest in getting them. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am passionate about the couch.
Happy 2013 :-)
i absolutely love how you have decorated your apartment. I even more love the large painting behind the grey couch. is it for sale ? or are you selling anything similar ? I have checked your site and everything is sold.
ReplyDeleteand also love the python xbenches.

ReplyDeleteI have always adored your style and the new place looks incredible!! You've been such an inspiration for me as I complete my personal home design projects and God willing I'll have mine done by Spring.
