At My Local Consignment Store...

Today I went to a local consignment shop here in town. I've been there about a DOZEN times & I've only walked out with one item, my dining table. This time, I saw quite a few items I liked....including two nightstands that I envisioned painted in white! The handles were so pretty, but the size of the night stand was a bit wider than most I've seen out there.

Below are some of the items I really liked... unfortunately this time, I didn't end up buying anything! Maybe I'll go back this weekend.

So, what do you think of consignment shops? Do you have some in your area? Do you shop there?

Above are the night stands I was telling you about above. The handles are what really drew me in! What do you think of these? Can you see them painted white??

This mirror was super pretty, but I have no idea where I would put it!!

I absolutely adored this fixture below...because I figured i could buy some crystal beads and make it look more like an empire chandelier....don't you think??

How cool is this RED chandelier?

What do you think? Should I go back & get any of these items? Don't you hate that feeling! You walk out of a shop, get home & you're still thinking of a specific item you saw in a store!

  1. Agh I hate that feeling, I always feel like I'm missing out!

I think you should buy the nightstands, I can totally see those painted white! My wardrobe is an antique, it's freestanding and used to be polished wood but we sanded it down and painted it white, it looks very chic.

  2. Oh, I think I've fallen in love with those night stands, I could totally see them in white. Or black for that matter! And I'm kinda loving wider-than-usual night tables, more like a mini dresser. Like that Espana Bunching chest used as a night table in Melissa Warner's bedroom from the May issue of House Beautiful! Great finds in general!

  3. I agree. The nightstand would be gorgeous in white. And the chandelier have so much potential as well.

I actually painted my husbands chandelier white a few years ago. I did not know at the time that it was a very old piece he got when his grandparents died. I was a bit nervous about showing my father in law what I´d done, but he loved it and actually wantet the chandelier himself. I was relieved and today it is my favoritepiece in the house. It has that empire-feeling but with a modern touch. And I would never have used it as it was so the makeover turned out brilliant.

OMG LOVE the chandeliers! Definitely go back for at least one of those. I always have my eye out for one that will work in my apartment. I'm in need of nightstands as well - Jealous of that shop!

  6. I get that feeling all the time, and sometimes you'll miss out on things because someone else makes the decision before you. That's very enoying. I would definitely go with the nightstands - if you have room for it. I think they would be gorgeous in white with the golden handles! Good luck hunting!

  7. I just did a post today on my finds at a consignment store!!! how funny. yesterday was my first real experience. I've never had any lucky at discount stores/yard sales/etc. but my friends always have.

my philosophy is, if you go home and you're still thinking about what you saw, you need to get go back and purchase if it fits in the budget. Good luck!! I'll hopefully be getting my finds this weekend when the store offers "no tax" for the holiday weekend!

  16. The mirror over a console table would go great in your foyer or entryway!

The nightstands are amazing and I could definitely see them painted in white! They would go beautiful.

    I like the clear chandelier.

  17. I love them, but lately I have seen the prices skyrocket, making it frustrating to find things a price I am willing to pay.

Wow. I wish our local consignments stores were as nice as the one you go to! Ours sell complete junk, and if it isn't complete junk then it is an item that is insanely over-priced.

The only thing we bought at one of the consignment stores here was our Dining room table. It's an antique, fairly larger then the standard dining sets sold in major department stores/furniture stores and it has character without being to over the top.

As far as the night stand, that thing looks so neat. It looks huge! You should go back and get it. I can totally see it painted white. It would look so crisp and clean and very pretty!

  20. I would definently get those great night stands and that beautiful mirror - imagine them painted....aahh that would look great:)

  22. when you get that feeling, at least you know you really do want the items and hopefully they will still be there. i just love the white chandelier, the nightstand (painted white) and the console/buffet, and the gold mirror. this place is great-i would have been in trouble if i went!

  24. I'm addicted to some of my favorite consignment stores! There are two that I love to go to that ALWAYS deliver on some treasure I feel like I can't live without.

And I can totally picture the nightstands in white. The handles are gorgeous!

  25. That nightstand is a great shape and it would like nice in white. I would consider that an investment piece that can be used in a hallway as an entry way table or between two chairs in a living room.

  26. Nice finds! Can I go back and get one of the nightstands and the "wedding cake" chandelier? I am serious btw. Where is this wonderful consignment store?

  27. Great finds!

I always say if you're still thinking about something a few days after you left the store - go buy it!

Love the nightstands and white would be fab.

  28. I'd absolutely pick up the nightstands and the mirror. You have to have them BOTH! I can envision white for them, as they'd look perfect with what I'm doing in my master bedroom remodel.

  29. i love the mirror best of all. shocking, i know! but i have a similar very grand mirror in my vanity area. i took off the tacky wall to wall mirrored look and sprayed my mirror with white lacquer. it is THE most discussed piece in my bedroom. (vanity area is attached).
i can also picture the nightstands white!

i LOVE consigning. most of my furniture has a story behind it :)

  30. YES! paint those nightstands white!!;) They would even look great with feet (if it doesn't make them too high?). I just recently purchased an OLD chippy paint white table that I saw in an antique store a month ago. I was dreaming about it, went back and it was still there! Yay! Also found some HUGE corbels that I'm currently using as the foundation for a glass top to use as my desk! LOVE! I have pics on my blog:)

  31. How the heck have I just know come across your blog?! You are going to make me spend hours today looking at all of your previous posts! I LOVE your blog!

How could you have left the consignment store with nothing? haha. If I were you I would get the buffet, the red chandelier and you MUST get that gold mirror. You may not have a place for it now but I passed one up similar to that a while ago and now I have a perfect spot for it and can't find one that will even compare to what that one could be! Keep us posted!

  32. I love the gold mirror! I have one very similar that I turned and placed on the top of my refrigerator (leaning it against the cabinets behind it) and then I styled in front of it with my cookbook stand and favorite cookbook and some other elements. I really makes the space pop!

  33. I've been to a few furniture consignment shops, but none usually have a lot that I would buy. The only place I like has a section dedicated to mod furniture and I can definitely find something I like.
If you are still thinking about those nightstands, I say go back to get them. I can totally see them painted white. And I love that mirror and red chandelier. My friend would love that too, but her hubby probably couldn't get with it, lol.

  34. i think you should definitely go back for the nightstands and paint them white. and you need that mirror, it's just a classic piece that would look amazing anywhere.

  36. The mirror is gorgeous and if I lived in Vegas I would definitely snag those nightstands! They would look great painted any color and they look very solid and sturdy.

    :)

  37. I think you should make a B-line back there and snag those nightstands. I adore those handles and they would look fabulous against a fresh coat of white paint!

  38. I love consignment shopping! You never know what's out there. The nightstands will be a good investment. Go-for-it! Should you tire of them, you could always repaint or even stack them like the picture. Tons of fun! White is my favorite decorating color right now!

I love the white chandelier as well...

That is so true...I hadn't been to this consignment shop in awhile & I did notice the prices were higher then the used to be for very similar items! These nightstands were $149 each...I do think some of the items can be negotiated though. :)
