Which Sofa Color?

Thanks to one of my readers, Janice for doing these quick mock ups of the sofa color-candidates!

It turns out the color I FINALLY selected yesterday is discontinued!! Just my luck! So, now I'm more confused than ever!

If you think you have a good sense of design, PLEASE take the poll to your right & help me choose which color you the think will go best with the rug, daybed, lamps & python benches.

Thank you so much! Can't wait to see what you decide.

And below with my artwork, which may be included in the living room somewhere:

Thank you Janice.

  4. I'm an interior designer so I say CHARCOAL all the wayyyyyyy Jen! You need an anchor in the space that's in high contrast to the other pieces to really let all the disparate items shine. Those python benches really have my heart so to me, they're the STARS! Everything else should play backup :D

    Hope that helps!

  6. Charcoal makes the other elements pop. :) And charcoal will take the "daily living" better than the lighter colors.

  7. I'm no designer but while I do love charcoal gray in general I think it clashes with the black lampshades a bit and think the medium shade looks great instead!

  8. I like more the light gray, but for your room I prefer charcoal because it contrast very nice to the other pieces in the room. Xoxo.

  9. Charcoal most definitely :)

  10. Charcoal Grey. The light grey doesn't offer enough contrast with the soft blue rug. Good luck! Can't wait to see your new home.

  11. I kind of think it's personal preference...that you could make any of them work, depending on accessories, etc. My personal preference in the mock up is the charcoal. But I also like a more subtle look in real life, i.e. what I like to live in, so if that's also what makes you feel best in the space, then make THAT work. One thing that helps me is to imagine myself actually in the space surrounded by those colors. How do I want to feel in the space? Do I want to be calm, or energized, etc? Which one accomplishes that? Which one ultimately makes me feel the best? Hope this helps a little? Good luck, I know it's going to be beautiful no matter what.

  12. Hey Jen-charcoal is my fave! Any pillows and accents would really pop nicely against it. And, I am with Julie, I have a serious crush on your python stools :)

  16. My choice would definitely be charcoal.
Other 2 variations are too similar with the carpet and other furniture that they simply blend in.
    This one stands out.

  24. I vote light gray, although if they had a neutral velvet the same shade as the key pattern on the rug, I think that would look awesome too. I'm all about white, neutral and gold.

Can't wait to see what you go with!

  25. i really like the light gray, it's not too overpowering!

  26. Charcoal gray. That dark color stands out in a chic way and still lets everything else pop.

  27. I love the charcol with the lamps, screen, and python benches; but for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I don't like it with the rug- so my vote goes to the light gray. I'd love to see a pop of contrasting color somewhere too. Good luck!

  28. (thanks for the info you emailed me about my floors a couple weeks ago!) I vote light gray based on the fact that the rug is so dark, and you have a dog that sheds, so light gray will not show hair as much!

  30. hi jen. beautiful sofa! i think the light grey is best. the black and gold make a bigger statement with the sofa light grey. the charcoal competes with the black too much and the medium isn't enough in either direction. go light!

  31. Hi Jen,

Depending on what kind of feeling you want the space to give out, you can either go with the light gray or charcoal. In my opinion, based on your style through your blog posts and your current décor, you like interiors with more of a define contrast so with this reasoning I would suggest the charcoal.
One important element that was not part of the design boards and if you are planning on using it in the new space, it must be included to give you an idea of how everything flows together is your large artwork with the black framing.

    Hope this helps.

  32. BTW Jen no matter what other peoples opinions are and there are a lot this is your home and no matter what you end up choosing it is going to look stunning, because everything you do is beautiful! Good luck.

  33. Simple, I say charcoal. Great contrast when paired with the colors of your other pieces.

  35. MK SQUARE STUDIO: Good point about the artwork...it more than likely will be included. I know i have to think of all the elements, just not sure why im so stuck. This is probably because i gravitated away from my usual blk & white palet and now I feel a bit lost. thank you. :)

  36. I love the medium gray! It's a pretty contrast--not too dark and not washed out =)

Where are the python ottomans from? They're gorge!

  39. Beautiful. Love the light gray. Sigh...those color combos are outstanding!

  40. The darkest grey. The other two grey colors do not provide enough contrast with the rug. They blend into each other too much.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think I like the medium grey the best, it looks a bit livelier then the light grey. Since you have the black lamp shades the room doesn't look washed out if you go with one of the light couches. For your adorable doggie's sake, I'd also go with the medium grey so you won't always need to throw a sheet over the couch.

  43. Definitely loving the charcoal. great contrast and helps to anchor the room!

  44. Light Gray. I'm a huge fan of the charcoal gray but I think it's toward the end of it's being the new black.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm torn between the two. I do love the light grey since you have other bold elements that give beautiful contrast. Whatever you decide... I know it would be fabulous! Can't wait to see how it will look in your new home! ;-)

  47. Charcoal - you need that contrast to act as an anchor. Otherwise everything is kind of floating along in the some color tone and you have nothing to anchor it all.

  48. At first I thought I was in the major minority, but maybe not too much...I'd say the medium gray. I love that it pulls in both the light and dark hues, and it'll probably be the one that shows the least amount of dirt (I would guess light gray will show it dirt more easily, and with anything white or linty, the charcoal will probably show it).

But then again, maybe they'll all hold up the same! I'd be stumped too.

  49. Jen - I like the charcoal, I think it will 'ground' the room and make the painting pop. ;-))

  50. I originally thought charcoal, now, I am loving the light grey better. It's softer and lighter.

  51. You have such great taste! So sorry the color sold out! It probably wasn't meant to be! With that said I'm sure that you can find something maybe in the same color family. I'll say a pray for you! Decorating can be a little stressful sometimes! i know! XOXO I have a J.Crew giveaway today on the blog! Still celebrating my 2nd blog anniversary! XO

  52. Are you sorry you asked? Haha - I would choose the light gray. I think the light gray allows the artwork to shine the most - and I love the lighter gray contrasted with the black lampshades. Good luck!

  54. ooooooo. I chose the Light Gray which is not the favorite right now. I'm excited to see what you decide on.

  55. Charcoal... it seems to pull the black elements together. The other items you chose are light, soft and muted. The charcoal will be your anchor.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Originally I chose the dark charcoal but then switched to light grey because it's silvery and would be a nice balance with the gold. Also your black and white pillows would look great with the lighter grey sofa. But, the charcoal sofa will look good too. You like black and the charcoal isn't black and will you be happy that it's a little off from black? The lighter grey is very elegant (actually, both are) and would make the rug stand out more than the charcoal. I would have a difficult time in making this decision too. Plus, the light grey is very soothing and I think it will hold up to daily living well. Like the others, I can't wait to hear what you ultimately decide. How fun!

  58. Hi Jen, what color had you chosen that they discontinued? So frustrating when that happens. If you want, send me images of the artwork you plan to hang in the room and I can add to the photomontage.

  59. I like light grey the best, especially now with your painting in the picture. Charcoal competes too much with the black colors in the room, while light grey serves as the perfect neutral for other elements to pop (rug, painting, chairs, etc). Btw, I saw the same light grey sofa over at Desire to Inspire site yesterday (http://www.desiretoinspire.net/blog/2012/11/13/grey.html) and I think it's a really beautiful neutral. Chic and elegant at the same time.

  60. CATHY: Thank you! yea i saw that one to, i think the one at Desire to inspire is from Jonathan Adler though, similar...yes.

  61. I think charcoal gray if you don't include the artwork because it will add a little drama to the space. If you use the artwork the light gray will help the artwork to standout more!
