I love the NY Times website and lately I've been thinking more & more of moving back to NY. Buying an apartment there & enjoying the city life once again. I realize NY real estate is very pricey $$, so I'm open to other areas like Williamsburg, Park Slope or Long island City. Perhaps a high rise with wonderful amenities like concierge & a gym!
Anyhow, I currently own 2 homes in this depressing Las Vegas market, so unless I can sell them, I may have to stick around here for awhile. I just miss NY, my mom & dad live there, so I consider it my home. I came across this amazing place, owned by Lori Levine, right in Manhattan....! You can read more about Lori & hear her talk about her home on video here. Do any of you live in New york?? How do you like your place??
Via New York Times.
jennifer, i literally have movers in my house right now moving some of our stuff to a 1 bedroom apt in the city! we are moving to midtown east during the weekdays. will be back in south jersey on weekends! (and i used to live in green valley LV too (from the balcony of my house you could see green valley ranch station!) LOL :)
ReplyDeleteoh boy, the flat is wonderful and the shoes... i could move in, whenever!! but jen, 2 homes? i wish i had one a bit bigger...
ReplyDeletehave a lovely night!
Tiina
Makes me want to have a place in New York! Love all the art on her walls! So eclectic and warm!
ReplyDeletewondeful place to live! i adore it!
ReplyDeleteLove this place! I want to live here!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Here isn´t do easy to find apartments with high ceilings.
ReplyDeletelove from São Paulo
What a gorgeous space! I don't live in NY but I'm close over here in NJ:)
ReplyDeleteI lived in New York for 7yrs love it, but the cold weather was getting to me. I also wanted my own home and Manhattan was out of the question for me. So I end up moving.
ReplyDeleteCan you rent out your Las Vegas properties and then rent in NY for a while?
ReplyDeleteAnd just remember the market is not good everywhere. So the deflated prices you sell for in Las Vegas... are the same deflated markets you buy from in NY.
That's what I was told anyway?
San Francisco has already surpassed NY as the most expensive place to live. I doubt Las Vegas will ever catch up but, everyone seems to feel the need to shuffle around the globe, so just go lead your heart and your bank account will surely follow.
ReplyDeleteI just moved an hour north of Manhattan, to Beacon, NY (also called "Soho on the Hudson") It's super cute, a lot more affordable & I absolutely love it. I'll be sure to send photos of my new place when I get settled in :)
ReplyDeleteI live far out in Brooklyn - MUCH more space at a MUCH more reasonable price. I don't miss Manhattan, though occasionally a beautiful spread such is this will make me pine for a tree-lined city street and a garden roof.
ReplyDeleteI could see myself living in that space. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI am a midwest girl, but there is definitely a part of me that would like to see if I could cut it in the big city.
Hopefully things will turn around and you will get back to the big apple someday.
I hope things turn around and you can make the move to NY! I am a native New Yorker (Brooklyn girl to be exact) and I can't imagine ever living anywhere else. I just bought a 1909 carriage house which I am in the middle of restoring. There's just this distinct charm about Brooklyn that I don't feel anywhere else :)
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful blog!!
ReplyDeletei would love to swap links with you if you're interested =)
x
what an stunning place indeed!!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS home! I hope everything works out for you and you can move back to NY! I've never been there, but it seems like such a great place!
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty home! wish i could move to NY as well and live the city life i dreamed of.
ReplyDeleteI'm a NYC gal. I love it! To me, there's no where like NY. It's super expensive though! My place is tiny and no where near as fab as Lori's. That's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your homes. I lived out West for a while. It's tough to be far from the place you call home. Lots of luck!
I have never been to NYC...I need to visit, looks amazing. I love the chevron flooring in her home. Not to mention all the beautiful architectural elements. You just do not get that in homes here in AZ.
ReplyDeletewow, that is one great apartment!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome home! I have always wanted to visit NY but have yet to do so. Hopefully the market turns around soon so you can make your move!
ReplyDeletewow, what a beautiful space, i love the decor! never lived in NY but i've visited several times and just love the energy there.
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous home! and that closet - hello?!
ReplyDeletei especially loved to see that she had two jewelry boxes overflowing, plus even more atop the dresser - makes me feel not so bad about my own ginormous jewelry collection.
NYC had always been a "dream city" for me to live in one day... that and Paris :)
Wow, I had a similar feeling yesterday. I visited downtown Chicago and thought how cool would it be to live right in the downtown area. But with two houses (one we live in and one we rent out) it's just not an option. The market will get better, we just have to wait it out :)
ReplyDeleteWOW HER house is amazing!
ReplyDeletewho doesn't wanna there?
i mean c'mon sadly we are not all that wealthy :(
by the way I'm having a giveaway I think would you like
I dont live in NY, but I wish I could if I ever live in us again... But what a sweety and charming home, probably every single stuff there have a story...
ReplyDeleteIf you go can I go with you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning apartment that is! I'd be happy inner city dwelling if my home looked like that!
ReplyDeleteSPEARMINT BABY: Wow...I'm so jealous!! That's such a neat thing to do , live in 2 places & go back n forth. Interesting that you used to live in same neighborhood as i do now (Green Valley )
ReplyDeleteYou should take pics of your new place when it's all set up... :)
TIINA: i know...I sound spoiled..ha! But it wasn't by choice, it just so happened by the time I bought the 2nd house...I couldnt sell the 1st. They are both pretty big, and that is something I will miss...so i know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteYAHGIE:
Yes, the prices are pretty $$ , no doubt about it. That's one reason i moved away to Vegas...but I think in 2 years we'll be ok (God-willing) to buy our own place there.
CHANTELLE:
You're totally right about the deflated market...I am already renting one of my homes (i live in the other). So my guess is, if I can get to sell one of them I may just make the move then. It is a good time to buy though, unfortunately I ain't buying for another 2 years at least.
TERI REES WANG: I hope that will be the case, thanks! :)
JACKIE PFEFFER:
Hmmm I've never even heard of beacon NY. Sounds nice though & alot closer to NY then here! I will look into it as well...I'm open to anything at this point. You should post pics of your area on your blog . :)
JAMILA:
Totally true, much more space out in Brooklyn. From what I'e seen so far. Not sure if you know that high rise building called 'The Edge' - its' soooo nice!
LIFESTYLEBOHEMIA:
Wow, that sounds really nice...I did all the restoring when I first moved out here to vegas. Granted the first home we bought here wasn't as old, but we did ALOT of DIY. So, i'm done with that...It was nice though at the time and very rewarding.
SUZANNE:
Ha I also thought about Paris...we're on the same boat!
CITY CHIC: Hey it sounds like you & I are in VERY similar situations. 2 houses, one rented & one lived in ...with a crappy market - hoping it turns around.
FRANCO- Thanks will take a look!
I am so with you as I have said, I fell in love with NYC and am also thinking of ways that I may be able to head east. Plus I would be a lot closer to Europe to spend summers.. I hope you find a way to, we have to follow those hearts and minds of ours that lead us to where we want to call home.
ReplyDeletexo
I totally understand where you are coming from, I wish I could move back too, but the cost of living there is not in my budget these days;-(
ReplyDeleteHer place is fantastic, love it...
btw, I like your new blog pics, very pretty;-)
So Pretty!
ReplyDeleteWow Jennifer, that is a really great apartment. Love the period details and room height.
ReplyDeleteI'm really missing living in my favorite city in the UK so we're thinking of renting our house too to move from the lovely Danish countryside, back to city life.
Think you should follow your heart and do it, good luck.
I just graduated from college in New York and moved into my new (rented) apartment a few weeks ago. The rent is about three times what I would be paying for a similar apartment in the suburbs of Connecticut, but I just can't imagine leaving New York.
ReplyDeleteLower/West Harlem apartments over the last decade have been increasing in price by a lot (even now, just to a lesser extent) - in some places, it's been a 1000% increase over the last 10 years! If you're up for an investment, this is it.
Fabulous apartment. Where did the sofa come from?
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Manhattan and still think of it as home so I go every few months just to get my fix. (I'm still recovering from my last trip 2 weeks ago!) I plan on moving back eventually and toy with the idea of buying a little place in the meantime. Maybe we'll be neighbors soon? :)
ReplyDeleteugh - this economy sucks...hopefully it gets better soon so you can explore your options!
ReplyDeleteThat fireplace is unreal.
ReplyDeleteI want to visit NY so bad! This apartment is absolutely gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteUAW, I love it ! I really enjoy your blog :)
ReplyDeleteKeep going ! ;)
OMG I am in LOVE!! And I am lovin the spiral staircase!!! That is my DREAM home!!! Thanks for sharin!!!
ReplyDeleteLove, Madison
so beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Jersey, right across the river in Hoboken and I'm looking as well. Prices are def dropping. In Hoboken, I'm actually seeing 1 bedrooms at 300k or slightly under. There are cheaper places but they have some serious ick factor. lol
ReplyDeleteThat apartment is great! I was in NYC in May and was SO close to moving there. Only thing that stopped me is that I have a 69 pound Golden Retriever! I saw tons of dogs there, but most were small. I guess I'll just move to L.A.!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love and want, want want this place!
ReplyDeleteOh and you can add London in the list of expensive cities.

ReplyDeleteabsolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who has moved SEVERAL times in NY, the best place to find a home is through Craigslist, and I never had to deal with a broker either although if you are looking in Manhattan & Brooklyn, you might have to. Although I can't imagine how much a place like Lori's would cost.
ReplyDeleteSWEET JESUS, say AMEN!
ReplyDeleteThat's so beautiful!
