Mass Produced vs. Original Art

When I paint a painting - it involves a lot of time & effort.

Big home stores may be selling printed art from original paintings, and that's great but in my opinion, it doesn't replace an original painting.  Expect to pay cheaper prices for mass produced items, but if you want something truly original where each brushstroke was created for you & your home, then go with original art. There is something special about original art & the feeling that it coveys to people.

Sadly, some large websites have saturated the art market by allowing anyone to buy a large piece of art (around 23"x33") for under $35...and YES, it's still a printed version of the original.  Because of this, I'm guessing some people may not understand the "original painting" market & tend to underestimate the uniqueness of an original painting. People will usually email me expecting prices to be in the same range as printed art they see on big art websites or in big home stores.  Some people even find it a little over their budget. That's ok. Perhaps it's over-saturation & ease of availability, but nonetheless some of these big 'art/poster' companies have taken away the connection between the artist and the buyer. Instead leaving the buyer with a mass produced product with no real individual element to it. I know that's harsh, but it's true.

You see, mass produced prints are STILL printed versions, (even if they are high quality) and the price range is justified for that print. People cannot expect an original to be in the same price range. In the same way we cannot expect a replica Louis Vuitton to be the same price as the real Louis Vuitton. Original means there is no other and in my opinion......this deserves to be valued as such.

Challenges of Apartment Living

Renting a New York City apartment has it's ups & downs.  I LOVE living in Manhattan - but renting has 'DECORATING limitations'. It's been strange not being able to do major DIY projects or paint a wall or two - without the thought of having to paint it back when we move. Sometimes the apartment starts to feel stagnant, and new decor is a must! Know what I mean?

What I miss about owning a home is having the freedom to change up your space on a whim!  So, what is one to do?? Well, we can either do very small changes or just go online & live through others.
I do however find myself changing things out with accessories & new art....and you??

Do you live in an apartment?? Do you find yourself facing the same challenges?? What have you done to keep things fresh in your home??

Apartment Living is Next....

It's Monday.... welcome back! This has been such a chaotic & busy weekend to say the least. With strangers coming by my home & seeing all the pretty pieces of decor (I purchased) slowly disappear.

However, one must do what they have to do to move cross country right? For now I have a few things left for sale, you can see in this post

I've been looking for inspiration all over on how to decorate a small place & even though books like "Big Book of Small, Cool Places" are great, I can't help but look at more. This home in particular is a small place in NYC that has a lot of style. In fact it's already inspiring me for my newest venture: APARTMENT LIVING.

One of my favorite features of this apartment is the TALL chevron wall!! It's making me think of possibly painting a wall in the new place in a darker color, like black.

Any of you ever paint your walls in a rental?!?!? We were told we could paint walls as long as we painted it back to its original color before moving out.

I'm just glad I have that option because adding color to a wall in a small apartment gives it more interest.

Home Styling by Ana Antunes...

Ana Antunes is a decorator who creates a variety of home styling for her clients. She used to be a TV producer and decided that this new career (Decorator) was what made her truly happy.

She's the decorator on the only home makeover show in Lisbon, Portugal, which both her & her husband are producers of as well. She seems to have a very bright career ahead of her. I happen to love her work & how she adds bold colors & patterns!

You can see more of her work on her Ana Antunes home Styling.

What do you think of her home styling?
