DESIGN: Antiques & Vintage

Hello MBG readers, its Lisa with Gem Daily! I have really been loving designs that mix antiquities in with more contemporary, clean spaces. Antiques and vintage pieces don't have the "grandma" stigma they once had and are the quickest way to make a space feel more lived-in, more traveled and more unique. My absolute favorite is when ornate, gold pieces are thrown into an all-white space, the best of both worlds!

Check out some spaces that really capture this aesthetic and some reproduction pieces you can use to do the same with your home!

Design: Snakeskin + Magenta

Hi MadebyGirl readers!  Sam here, with another home decor post.  Lately I have been crushing on a new chic combo for the home- bold magenta and snakeskin.  I have always felt that animal prints can serve as neutral tones, and work well mixed in with bold colors.

I've been on the hunt lately for fun ways to incorporate this combo in to the home.  Here are a few of my recent finds:

1.) Faux Python Tray $55

2.) Agate Coaster Set $64
3.) Homesense Snakeskin Frame $12.99
4.) Arianna Belle Magenta Velvet Throw Pillow $75
5.) Pink Ikat Cocktail Napkins $12
6.) Pink Gem Lamp $165
7.) Jayson Home Faux Snakeskin X-Bench $476

One thing's for sure- a mix of bold magenta and snakeskin makes quite an impact.  Would you incorporate the look in to your own home?

Design: Lucite Love

Hello MBG readers! It's Friday - the weekend has come. With that said, let's talk about....

LUCITE: (lu-cite, /ˈlo͞oËŒsÄ«t/, n.) A solid transparent plastic made of polymethl methacrylate. Who'd have guessed plastic could be so classy? It's Katie here from H2 Design & I don't know about you, but I am a BIG fan of the lucite craze. It is such a versatile material and can be seen working it's magic in interiors of all types, as seen below...

I've pulled together some of my favorite lucite pieces. If you don't have lucite included in your home decor just yet, I would highly suggest checking them out! A few of these pieces can get a little pricey, so be sure to additionally check out CB2's Peekaboo series to find some great wallet friendly options.

Design: African Fusion

Hello Made By Girl readers! It's Brooke from the Modern Sophisticate again.
One of my favorite tricks designers use to add some fun and whimsy to a space is to incorporate animals into the decor. Adding a dog statue to a side table or little leopard print to a chair can really do wonders.

Trust me. It works every time.

Lately, I have been inspired by more exotic animals like rams and peacocks, which have been styled to be more glam than safari. Here are my picks for an African fusion look:

A Gift From Guatemala...(Made By Girl)

I wrote this post back in early March about Lorenza's amazing home accessories! In this particular case I'm talking about OSTRICH EGGS!!

She was so kind to send me one all the way from Guatemala and it is soooo stunning! I haven't decided where I'll place it yet, but I'm so grateful to her for her generosity!

Here is what Lorenza shared with me about her work & how she came up with this idea:

I began all this because of my insomnia and that´s when I began thinking of doing something really different. One night while struggling through the night I saw this fabulous fabric with paisleys in my bedroom that I thought would look great on an ostrich egg, on that instant I went to my studio and looked out for my old brushes and began painting!

Next step was doing something more with those eggs & the idea of tassels and pom pom cords came another night, Ive become in love with them!

If you'd like to inquire about Lorenza's handmade home accessories - just go to her site, Lorenza Filati & shoot her an email! Thank you Lorenza!

Home Accessories by Dana Gibson...(Via Made By Girl)

I'm so happy to introduce you all to Dana Gibson. I've known about her for a  little while now & am so excited to finally feature her lovely work on Made By Girl! Dana has been a CERAMIC designer for 15 years, creating some of the MOST beautiful lamps & vases I've seen!

If I had to pick a FAVORITE lamp, I'd definitely say it's her cowhide design, which I'm certain would look amazing my guest bedroom! I probably would've chosen the pink croc for my own room, BUT I do have to consider that my guy sleeps there too ha! There's something so chic about a black lampshade don't you think?? I'm so glad I chose black lampshades throughout my own home.

I've been SPOTTING more & more BLACK shades on lamps everywhere I look. Magazines, design books, blogs & so on. Do you have any black lampshades in your home??

I'm so blown away by Dana and her European inspired porcelain designs. She recently branched out into pillows and tole painted baskets, which you can see here and here.

I L-O-V-E her style & would even love to collaborate with her one day! Enjoy!
