The Giving Keys

Hey guys! I'm back...excuse my absence. I was away for a few weeks in regards to our adoption, a post about that hopefully to come!

Have you heard of The Giving Keys ? I love this Los Angeles based company & their concept for several reasons.  Not sure if you knew, but my passions is helping the homeless & those less fortunate, so, The Giving Keys really struck a chord with me.  This brand takes fashion accessories to a new level by employing those who are looking to transition out of homelessness.  I'm always intrigued how companies started and what inspired them. I love the story of how it all began on their site. Check it out.

It started with a New York hotel room key. The Giving Keys founder, actress and singer/songwriter, Caitlin Crosby, wore the key as a necklace and had the idea to start engraving old, used keys with inspirational words. Realizing that in a way we are all like these keys  unique, flawed, scarred, and at risk of being discarded – she wanted these keys to have their purpose renewed over and over again. Their message is yours for a time, but once they've served their purpose with you, pay it forward to inspire another.   -   Pretty neat huh?

Well, when they contacted me at the end of January, I was still very heartbroken over the death of our boxer, Darla, (which you can read about here).  When they asked what I wanted written on my key I had two requests, one that said "Nuevo" & the other would read "Darla" in memory of our pup.
Nuevo, of course for the new life in Christ I lead - and all things new to come. At the time I had no idea of what NEW was to really come .... I got the gold Dainty key pendant.

So,what do you think? Is this something you'd wear? They are customizable - so you have quite a lot of room to think of what you want it to say, but remember Pay It Forward.

Trend: Tassel Necklaces

Hey everyone! So I have to make a little confession... I recently found myself in a daze and completely mesmerized by a necklace wrapped around the neck of Rachel Zoe. I'm TOTALLY obsessed!  She was wearing (as shown below) a tassel necklace that seems to be trending now.  I love the tassel key chains I sell at my MADE BY GIRL shop, but who would've thought they looked so chic on our necks.  I did some major browsing around & and collected these pieces... also, check out the one I bought.

P.S:  my necklace is sold out at Bauble Bar, but you can get on their wait list, to be notified when it's available again!

DIY: Trim Wrap Bracelet

Hi, it's Stephanie from Henry Happened back with another DIY. I did tell you I loved bracelets, right? Well, I wasn't lying! Read on for the tutorial on how to make the easiest wrap bracelet ever. These DIY bracelets are great for teenagers!

Have you ever roamed the trim section at JoAnns? No?! Well, you might be surprised at the selection of ribbon, lace, and even fur trim you can find. The bright colors of this trim called to me (yes, it even has studs!) so naturally I found a way to make it into a simple wrapped bracelet.

What you'll need for your own wrap bracelet:
  • About 1/2 a yard of whatever trim you like. Go with a neon studded one or try a Greek key, floral or Baroque pattern. I'm telling ya - there's a ton to choose from!
  • Sticky back Velcro
  • Scissors
IMG_3875

First, measure your wrist with the trim. I like a 3 wrap bracelet but position it how you like it on your arm and then cut the length.

Then take the Velcro and cut a piece to fit the size of your trim.

Attach the sticky side to each end of the trim, and, voila!, you are done. The Velcro closure is a bit of a miracle because I can never manage to get my bracelets on with one hand. Please tell me I'm not the only one?

Wear the bracelets on their own or make a couple and stack them together.

What kind of bracelet stack are you planning to wear this spring?

Cocktail Rings

Do you love going to cocktail parties??

Ever notice those gorgeous rings women tend to wear at these events? I do. Of course, I love them & had to get one for myself. So if you're interested in diving into this trend, Social Experiment is a shop owned by Georgia Hearty & she makes all these one-of-a-kind pieces herself!

I'm already a FAN of these rings - but I'm hoping to get one more to add to my current jewelry collection. Cocktail rings are a great way to add some style to your "going out" wardrobe - don't you agree?? Let me know what you think of these pretty little pieces?

Would you wear these??

Above is the Eye of Shiva ring I'm wearing today. You can also spot the pretty gold cross bracelet soon to be sold on Made By Girl. Pretty huh?

Below is the ring I have called, 'Eye of Shiva' - its got a white clean shell with a beautiful swirl line.
The rest of the ring is made up of 22 gage tarnish resistant gold plated wire.

What's Hot This Summer...(Made By Girl)

I've been seeing an ENORMOUS amount of BRIGHT - even NEON colors trending these days. Oh yes, & GOLD too! Funny thing is, it sort of reminds me a bit of the 80's!! What does it remind you of??!?

I'm seeing BRIGHT colors on everything from handbags to nail polish & if you ask me - it's not a bad thing considering most of us probably go for neutrals & black first! Let's be more daring!

It seemed a lot more people did it in the 80's - so I'm all for it now.  In fact I've never been one to wear colored DENIM- but RED SKINNY JEANS is something I think I could ROCK this summer!  Anyone else?!? All my jeans are either blue or black....a little red may spice things up a bit and give my wardrobe a little edge. I like that.

How about you??? Are you liking this BRIGHT COLOR trend??

So Stylish Bracelets...(Via Made By Girl)

Welcome back! Monday is here again and I sooo wish it was still the weekend! Don't you?!? What did you all do? Anything interesting?

I pulled out the swimsuit (it was 91 degrees) & went SUNBATHING....... & boy do I look T-A-N now! Not Snookie style, just nicely tan. I really love a nice healthy glow going into Spring....everything seems to look nicer against my skin.

I find that Colorful or gold bracelets look even nicer with a tan.....anyone else know what I mean??   I've been looking for some really stylish pieces for my NYC trip this weekend.  After looking around - everywhere pretty much.....I came across the most amazing collection at Neiman Marcus! Below are my favorite picks!

So tell me....do you have a favorite source/shop for bracelets? I'd love to take a look....

My Favorite Jewelry...(Via Made By Girl)

I have a FASCINATION with interesting jewelry. One in particular that I love is jewelry with a claw, a tooth or something similar. Below is a collection of some I may be wearing more of this new year.... unfortunately, I don't own any of these (YET) but will soon! I've always been drawn to this STYLE because of it's unique and raw looking quality.

I'm NOT really a DIAMONDS kind of gal, with the exception of my wedding ring, I don't wear a lot of shiny BLING. I pretty much only wear necklaces, bracelets & rings....no earrings. I think I only own 2 pairs, not sure why.... Anyway, this STYLE is super HOT right now!

What's your favorite style of jewelry? Do you like bold pieces, pearls, diamonds, unique pieces like these or simple silver & gold?
