Design: The Four Poster Bed

Anyone out there a fan of the four poster bed? Katie here, from H2 Design, and I'm ready to convince you! 4 poster beds originally gained popularity in the 15th century and were generally very heavy and ornate. Lucky for us, they have come a long way and can now be seen as the main attraction in stylish bedrooms of all aesthetics.

I've collected some of my favorites below, in no particular order. Whether you're an eclectic collector or an uncluttered modernist, there is a 4 poster bed for you! My only deal breaker is ceilng height. Be sure to give your bed some breathing room... nothing looks good stuffed into anything!

So, which is your favorite? I think I would lean towards the eclectic number, although the transitional one might have the best timeless appeal. hmmm...

  18. Eclectic definitely. My husband and I have a hard wood four post bed and the headboard has a leather basket weave effect. I love it! But it needs to be styled better. The comforter we have is just...no.

  19. Four poster beds were excellent in the past, particularly i Sweden they served as additional shelter against the cold with fabric all around. The perfect little cocoon. Have not had one yet, not sure why, but it's tempting...
