Hello everyone! I'm still on the road & boy am I EXHAUSTED. I'm literally trying to force my eyes open while I write this next post....

About a week ago I asked on my Twitter if there were any bloggers who wanted to share their rental experience with MadeByGirl readers.

Since I will now be RENTING, I'm curious to know your thoughts on 'the GOOD, the BAD, the UGLY' of apartment living! I chose a few of the posts that were submitted to me last week. Below is the first one....I'll share more of the submissions soon! Enjoy!

The GOOD
Let’s face it, developing a sense of style when it comes to your home is even harder than developing your personal style. Of course there are people who just get it from the start. But, for the rest of us, it usually takes some time to figure out what you like and don’t like when it comes to decorating and then gather all the parts and pieces to make the design work.

Being able to test-drive design ideas and styles is one of the great benefits of apartment living. You can focus on developing your style while not having to worry about too many extra design elements like paint, wallpaper, construction, etc. It’s less risky to make changes when you’re living in an apartment, as a throw pillow is easier to change out than a horrible fireplace.

The BAD
Now onto the bad. Once you have developed your design sense, it can be frustrating not having control over those extra design elements mentioned above. It may even get to a point where you just have to bite the bullet on the repainting fee and go crazy with painting the place. Other changes can include replacing hardware like the towel bars in the bathroom, door/cabinet knobs, or installing curtain rods at your own expense.

The bad part about living in an apartment is that that those types of changes usually require someone else’s approval. No I don’t mean your significant other - that’s challenging enough. I mean the person who actually owns the place, the landlord.

The UGLY
Now, we all have things we can live with and cannot live without when it comes to apartment living. You may be able to live with a small cramped kitchen, but not having a walk-in closet to house your large collection of shoes simply will not do. Living in an apartment requires all types of tradeoffs, it’s what you do with the bad scenario that makes all the difference. I, myself, have two bay windows in my living room.

Not a problem you say? Well, they are covered in old beige blinds and each take up an entire wall. So in an effort to inject color, establish a theme for the room and hide the blinds, I put up light olive green and white Moroccan print curtains. The bay windows are now my favorite part of the room!

My heart breaks today...

My 13 yr old boxer had to be put to sleep. Both my husband & I are very sad & miss him dearly. It will feel so weird moving into our new place without him.

I will think of him as my husband's best friend, always following him around our home, sitting between his legs when he worked at his desk, sticking his head out of the car window to catch the breeze. He loved car rides & looking out the window for hours. What a blessing it was to have such a good dog.

His name was Danny & I hope we'll see him again one day....

A friend of mine emailed this poem she found online today:

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,

Wanted: Super Chic Decor...

Been thinking a lot about how to decorate our new apartment in New York City. It's not that big, only 1000 sq ft. BIG difference leaving my home which is almost 3000 sq ft. Crazy huh?

Well, I'm sure I'm going to post a lot about this adventure & will welcome any design ADVICE from any Interior Designers out there. One apt (so much BIGGER than ours) that I loved, belongs to Cathy Triant Buxton. I love her style & would love my place to be as CHIC...!

She also has a WHITE sofa!!! I've decided to keep mine for now after seeing her apartment....it REALLY inspired me.

Any of you in the middle of moving right now?? Are you just as CRAZED & excited at the same time?

Hello dear readers. Drew here, bringing you insight from a different perspective on my views of design. I was browsing home decor on the internet & came across a feature on a new trendy home accessory. It struck a nostalgic chord of childhood memories.

GEMSTONES.

I fondly remember mining for rocks in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, freezing water running over my hands as I cleaned and polished every gem I came across in the heavy white bucket. What used to be a collection can now be something much more.

Quartz and agate seem to be rising to a decor stardom level. They come in all different brilliant shades, shapes and sizes. You can get fancy and add these precious gemstones to a fireplace, mimic them in a bed spread, use them as table surfaces, as glamorous lamps and even a fashionable mirror.

Just admire these gems in all of their natural splendor!

DIY: Rope Bracelet

Hi everyone! It's Jenny Bevlin bringing you another DIY post. I love accessories, but I especially love jewelry! I've noticed lately that I have been buying a lot of bracelets and even making some myself. I find that making my own accessories is very rewarding. It's fun and you will love all the compliments you receive when you say you made it yourself!What you need to make this bracelet:

Hot Glue Gun
Flat Nose Pliers
Scissors
Rope trim
Jewelry Jump Rings
Jewelry Lobster Clasp
Jewelry Ribbon Endings

Steps:

Measure the rope around your wrist leaving about an extra inch longer than your wrist. Cut the rope. Make sure you add a dot of hot glue to the end of the rope you just cut to keep it from unraveling.

Cut 3 more strands the same length as the first strand. Make sure to add a dot of hot glue to ends of the rope each time you cut it.

Lay out the rope as shown in the photo above.

Overlap the rope as shown in the photo above.

Pull the end of the top rope under and up through the bottom rope.

Pull the ends of the rope tight.

Trim the ends so that they are all the same length. Make sure to add hot glue to the ends to keep them from unraveling.

Put the rope ends into the ribbon ending and close with the pliers.

Use the pliers to add the jump rings and lobster clasp.

Biker Boot Trend

I've been seeing a trend I love - Biker boots. Not just any kind, I love the ones that go up to your calves. Kind of a mid boot right? In fact, I was so enchanted with this type of boot that I bought the Jeffrey Campbell ones at ShopBop. Well, I had to return them because they were too tight! Apparently the sizes run small & they don't have my size ughhh!

I believe they have them at Free People - so I may buy them there anyway. I had biker boots in high school & they lasted FOREVER and were VERY comfy!

So, what do you think about this trend? Are you into biker boots?

Fashion: Tights

It's Casie Mace again!

I'll be the first to admit that I was hesitant to wear shorts with tights and still expect to be taken seriously in life. I was even more hesitant to wear textured tights with more edgy designs. But once you learn to style these two oh-so-fabulous trends, you can pull these looks off for both work AND play--you can't help but get addicted!

If you're new to the shorts + tights trend, start slow with a pair of dressy shorts and solid black tights (perfect with a pair of booties). Just treat the shorts like you would any skirt. I'm not sure what I love more, the look (you can make the ensemble dressy or a little more edgy) or the comfort factor (c'mon... you're basically wearing a more comfortable version of leggings with the ease of mind that your bootie is covered).

If you go the route of textured tights, these go perfectly with a more geared-down pieces like solid colored tops and skirts. Have you taken the plunge with either of these trends yet this season?!

Sofa: To Sell or Not to Sell...

Hello everyone! We've been busy packing things & selling stuff around here, my head is spinning! Today I came to a STOP & wondered if I should sell the white provincial sofa I purchased in 2006. Yes, 2006 & it's been wrapped in (plastic) in my garage ever since - have never truly used it.

For those of you who don't remember when I wrote about it on my blog, you can check out that 2006 post here. I begged my guy to pull it out of garage today (with my help) & put it in our living room...I needed to see it in a home setting & not the garage. It looks so cold & lonely down there, not a pretty sight, know what I mean ladies?!? He was sweet enough to help me - it was crazy - but we did it.

Anyways, I'm faced with a dilemma, my guy likes the sofa but doesn't think it's practical to have a white sofa as our 'main' sofa! Perhaps he's right...but I paid for it & have never used it. I feel like I'd be cheating myself. He says we'll have to be covering it up with throws, like you see in the photo below...and again, maybe he's right. He also told me that he wouldn't feel like he could relax on it without me watching over his shoulder...

I'm so confused, I don't want it to get dirty...should I care that much?? Should I get creative & paint a black pattern or spots on the couch with black fabric paint??? I figured the dots would conceal any potential dirt, basically making it harder to spot it.

So, I could just SELL it as new ($880), since I've never used it or haul it to my new place in NYC. PLEASE let me know what you guys think......I'm seriously at a loss. It's so pretty & comfortable...I want it, he doesn't so much...

This is what it looks like in my living room right now....& what it would probably look like in my new place, all covered up in a fur throw. Do you guys think it would look good with my white daybed in the same space?!?

Apartment Living is Next....

It's Monday.... welcome back! This has been such a chaotic & busy weekend to say the least. With strangers coming by my home & seeing all the pretty pieces of decor (I purchased) slowly disappear.

However, one must do what they have to do to move cross country right? For now I have a few things left for sale, you can see in this post.

I've been looking for inspiration all over on how to decorate a small place & even though books like "Big Book of Small, Cool Places" are great, I can't help but look at more. This home in particular is a small place in NYC that has a lot of style. In fact it's already inspiring me for my newest venture: APARTMENT LIVING.

One of my favorite features of this apartment is the TALL chevron wall!! It's making me think of possibly painting a wall in the new place in a darker color, like black.

Any of you ever paint your walls in a rental?!?!? We were told we could paint walls as long as we painted it back to its original color before moving out.

I'm just glad I have that option because adding color to a wall in a small apartment gives it more interest.

Food: Raw Peanut Balls

Hello Lovelies! It's Heather from the Lovely Cupboard.

Most of us need a little break from our holiday indulging, but that doesn't mean that we have to kick sweets all together. I've got a very healthy sweet treat that even your vegan friends will enjoy. These raw peanut balls are quick, healthy, and very easy to make. No baking required. My mom made a version of these peanut butter balls when I was growing up. I decided to take them up a notch with orange marmalade and coconut flakes. Here's what you'll need to pick up at the store:

1. Pulse 1 cup of rolled oats in a food processor until they are coarsely ground.
2. Add ground oats, 1/2 cup of peanut butter, 1/3 cup of marmalade, 1/4 cup of raisins, and 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds to a large bowl and stir to combine. (I added a splash of orange juice to the mix, but this is optional. If you don't have OJ, add one more tablespoon of marmalade and one teaspoon of water.)
3. Using a large melon baller or teaspoon, scoop out mixture and roll in your hands until a ball forms. Place on wax paper.
4. Roll in coconut flakes (I used dried, unsweetened coconut flakes). If you use cocoa, sprinkle it on top rather rolling the ball in cocoa.
5. This should make about 16 treats. Allow to chill in fridge 30 minutes before serving. These can be frozen and eaten up to two weeks later. Enjoy!

You could use this recipe and add any array of things. I've always wanted to try dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds or even coarsely chopped dark chocolate and crystalized ginger. Maybe I'll make another batch with my left over peanut butter!

Hello everyone! Remember this post?

Well, my guy was just informed he got a job in NYC! He & I sometimes chat on Skype video when he's on his lunch break & TODAY he held up this sign....

I SWEAR, my heart skipped a beat! I'm so excited to be moving!! You see, this past weekend we flew to NYC on a last minute trip for his interviews. While there, we took advantage & viewed a few rentals. We probably saw 20 places, some nice, some not-so-nice. I felt like I was on House Hunters, narrowing it down to 3 places - all on the upper east side- my fave neighborhood.

Now, the challenge is to sell some items in my home, in my closet, sell our car, rent our home (yes, I gave in) & figure out how we're going to ship a few pieces of furniture & clothing! ....AND do this all by Jan 27th.

We need to find a moving company to move a few pieces...as I'll be SELLING my large Crate & Barrel dining table, possibly the dining chairs, my sectional sofa from West Elm, Master bed tufted leather headboard/bed, a few lamps & possibly my dark brown West Elm coffee table (which I love). Oh yes, & our cool car.....

I'll be posting items FOR SALE on my blog within the next few days...however, if you see something in my home you'd like to buy, just shoot me an email & I'll let you know if I'm selling it. Wish me luck.

Below are some photos from the trip last weekend, including the hotel we stayed in & some of the apartments we viewed!

Came across this building below & thought it was interesting. It's an actually entryway to an apt building...only in NYC.

The hotel - was called "Marmara" - it's a cool place with a nice staff located on 94th & 2nd avenue. Very affordable too! The only issue I had was with the construction on 2nd avenue, but it didn't bother me that much in the morning! Having a full kitchen was well worth it & saved us a few bucks by cooking.They also have an AMAZING deck area, with views of the city!

How cool is this? A chandelier in the elevator!!

I've said it before...I LOVE sites like the Coveteur & visit it often for inspiration! The site highlights closets of several prominent people in the fashion industry.

You basically get an inside look at how they decorate the closets in their own homes. I found so much variety & unexpected details throughout the entire site. It focuses small personal details & that's why I love this site so much! With a talented photographer like, Jake Rosenberg, you can't beat it!

Hello again! It's Brooke from the Modern Sophisticate.

Lately I have developed a crush on architect turned designer, Warren Platner. You may not recognize the name but I'm sure you design gurus out there have seen his work before in magazine like Lonny, Architectural Digest, Dwell, etc. Platner developed nickel-plated steel wire furniture in the 1960's and his pieces have been in production ever since. Talk about timeless style!

"I felt there was room for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV." -Warren Platner

Food: Quinoa Bake Pie

Hello Made by Girl readers,today's recipe inspiration came from our original quinoa bake pie we made a few months ago on our blog that was a big hit. we got to thinking of adding in some veggies to the mix.

This recipe is great for feeding a family and great for making ahead of time. plus it is a great way to get more veggies in your diet. and we just love quinoa for so many reasons.

Quick facts about Quinoa:

sometimes called a whole grain, quinoa is actually a relative of leafy green vegetables like spinach and Swiss chard. it is a recently rediscovered ancient "grain" once considered "the gold of the Incas."
has a mild taste, almost nutty flavor, and creamy texture.
it is a complete protein, has all 8 essential amino acids, great for a vegetarian diet.
great source of dietary fiber and contains B Vitamins and iron.
quinoa is also gluten-free, easy to digest, extremely versatile (great sweet or savory) and super simple to make!

Now what is not to love?time to get cooking

Recipe: Quinoa Veggie Bake Pieprep-time: 5-10 minutesbake-time: about 25 minutes

Ingredients:

2 cups whole dry quinoa
2 cups water
2 cups almond or coconut milk
1/4 cup nutritional yeast (or cheese would be fine)
1 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 cup tahini
1 tablespoon mustard
1/4 cup handful fresh chopped parsley
1 garlic clove
4 tablespoons flax meal
2 cups chopped broccoli

Directions:First have to make quinoa. Pour your 2 cups of water into a pot over a stovetop and bring to a boil. Once water is boiling add in your 2 cups of dry quiona. Return to a boil, add in your 2 cups of almond milk then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Till your liquid is just about all gone.

While quinoa is cooking time to chop veggies. You can use any veggies of your choice. We roughly chopped our broccoli and leeks then tossed them into a food processor to finely chopped them more. This is optional, all depends on how 'big' you want your veggies in the quiona bake pie.

Once quinoa is done toss in cooked quinoa, chopped veggies, and remaining ingredients and stir till combined. Then pour batter into a deep dish pie shell. Place pie shell into a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for about 25 minutes.Remove from pan and let cool slightly before cutting into slices.Serves 4-8 depending on size of slice and if this is the main part of meal or not.Other notes about recipe:

you may add in any veggies of your choice
may add in any additional flavorings
may add in some cheese instead of nutritional yeast. nutritional yeast is great for vegetarians or vegans.

We added in some almond milk to help round out the creaminess of the recipe and add in a touch of more flavor. You can do all water if you would like. That is one great thing about this recipe it really is versatile and you can add in things that you love!

Also the flax meal that we use in the quinoa baked pie is to help hold it all together, if you would like you can add in 1 egg instead of flax meal.Any questions let us know.

DIY: Decorative Tray

Hi Made By Girl Readers! It's Jenny Bevlin bringing you another wonderful DIY project. I love decorative trays because there are so many uses for them. You can use them to serve food (preferably breakfast in bed!) or you can put them on your bar cart or coffee table to serve cocktails.

You can also use them to display jewelry, perfume and nail polishes. The best part about this tray is that it is made with a picture frame. This lets you switch out the design inside the frame with your changing decor.

What you need to make this tray:

Picture Frame
Two Drawer Pulls or Handles
Drill and Drill Bit (The drill bit should be the same size as your screws.)
Two Screws that are a little longer than the thickness of the frame
Measuring Tape
Pencil for marking
Decorative insert (You can use decorative wrapping paper, fabric etc. I designed my insert in Photoshop and had it printed at the local print shop.)

Steps:Flip the frame over and measure the length of one of the sides.

Mark the center with your pencil.

Measure the bottom of one of the handles to see where the holes measure. Mine measured at 0 and 3, therefore I know that I need to drill the holes 1 1/2 inch on both sides of the center of the frame.

Mark where the holes will need to be drilled with your pencil.

Drill the holes for one side. Repeat by measuring, marking and drilling the holes for the other side.

Insert the screws up through the bottom of the frame and put the handles on the front of the frame. Use your drill's screw driver to screw the screws tight into the handles.

Thinking of a Vacation...

After working so hard this year- I'm really hoping to go on vacation & relax. So, I'm thinking sometime in the new year....any suggestions? It can be a summer or winter getaway - spas are great too!

I'll admit, I'm NOT fond of flying more than 6 hours, so if you know know of a great place to vacation....not more than 6 hrs away, please comment! I'm sure others would love to DISCOVER new & exciting places they've never been to either!

My Holiday Weekend...

I decided to pop in today & will probably be back a couple more times this week ...hope you all had a wonderful Holiday! Here's a little peak into my weekend....

How was your Holiday??

Gold was the color of the season at my house- I had a GOLD pedicure & gold Holiday ornaments throughout my place. Polish is by Butter London in The Full Monty. Looks sooo pretty on!

This was our tree this year..branches we bought at West Elm last year & placed them into a tall white vase. We filled the vase with rocks so that it was sturdy! 

Maybe next year we'll have a real BIG tree....

Talk about a DELICIOUS dinner. My guy once again whipped up a great dinner & dessert- he's so awesome. We had lamb chops with cranberry-pinot noir reduction , yam mash with cinnamon & braised brussel sprouts.  

We also had a side plate of tarts with goat cheese & balsamic onions along with parmesan twists. Oh & the dessert...chocolate twists with dark chocolate drizzle and pears. 

As always had cappuccino at one of my fave places - Espressamente.

The day after Christmas, my guy made these for me...oatmeal cookies with dark chocolate centers!

My boxer- he's been with us for a long time now & is now 13 years old. Pretty old for a Boxer! He has some health problems unfortunately, but we love him so much! 

This is the dog food we always make...it's a combination of cooked vegetables & lean ground beef- then we add cooked brown rice & mix it all up....they love it! We store it in the fridge until feeding time. In my opinion, this is much better than dog food.

Food: Three Ways to Serve Crostini

Hello there! Heather Freeman of The Lovely Cupboard here, and I'm back to share a recipe with you today. Actually, I've got three easy ways you can serve crostini at your upcoming New Year's Eve party.

Crostini is such a fancy name for little toasts, but that's really all it is. However, this bite-sized crispy bread can be topped with anything from hummus to chutney. To begin with, you'll need a baguette, olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic.

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and slice bread at an angle. (This allows more surface area for yummy toppings.)
2. Lay on a baking sheet or stone and brush each piece with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
3. Bake for 10-12 minutes. If desired, rub a fresh garlic clove over the surface of each toast. (It gives just a hint of garlic flavor.)
4. Next, top with any assortment of spreads, meats, and veggies. I've got a few suggestions for you below...

This tastes like a caprese salad with a crunch. Spread fresh or jarred pesto. Top with fresh mozzarella and half of a cherry tomato.

For this spread, mix two parts herbed goat cheese and one part cream cheese. Top with thinly sliced cucumber. I used a cranberry chutney, but any fruit chutney would work. Mango tastes delicious with it.

This is such a classic combination that you can never go wrong with it. Cream cheese, smoked salmon with dill, and capers. This one is my favorite.

These make such great appetizers for a party since you can assemble them shortly before guests arrive. So hang the mistletoe, light the candles, and bring on the white elephant gifts. You've got crostinis and you know how to serve them!

DIY - Orange Pomander Balls

Hello again Made by Girl Readers :-) Jenny May here, from The Swede Records. I hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday Season!

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the smell that I have come to associate it with- peppermint, pine, mulled cider, gingerbread, fires, cinnamon...it's all so comforting and nostalgic. Nothing evokes memories like a scent and for me, Orange Pomander Balls are the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.

A pomander serves as both festive decoration and a palatable air freshener, the perfect fragrant mixtures of spices and fruit.

Pomanders are traditional and very easy to make. All you really need are some fresh, ripe oranges and a jar of whole cloves. Add some ribbon and glitter, and you got yourself the perfect lil gift to bring to Holiday parties.

In order to ultimately hang the pomander ball, wrap a pretty ribbon around the orange twice pinning it to place. Then, tie a bow on top of the orange and make a knot at the end.

Next, simply insert the pointy ends of the cloves into the rind of the orange in any pattern that pleases you. (Use a toothpick to gently prick the orange beforehand if necessary).

Once the orange is completely studded with cloves, pour some glitter all around to give it a little something extra.

The Orange will eventually dry out but not rot, thanks to the clove's antibacterial properties. Be sure to give this easy DIY a try this Christmas, I promise you will love how it turns out (and the sensational smell)!

My New Year's Eve Outfit...

For a couple of weeks now, I've been thinking of what the heck to wear. I can't seem to tear my mind off all the awesome GOLD out there. So, I went out & purchased my NYE sequin dress in gold via Michael Kors. It's the same dress featured here & available here.

My guy gave me an early Christmas gift - the gold link MK ring, which I've wanted for a few months now, how sweet is he?

The super sexy stilettos in the photos are from Zara. The heel is silver.....DARN. I wonder if I should bother painting it gold??? Thoughts? I'm also accessorizing with this cute leather fold over clutch, available soon on MadeByGirl!

So what do you think? Will you also be dressing in gold this new year?

Food: Pumpkin Snickerdoodle Cookies

A super delicious holiday inspired cookie.

Who loves pumpkin? Who loves cinnamon and sugar? Who loves cookies? Who loves holiday baking?

If you answered yes then you will LOVE these cookies! They are gluten-free but you can use any flour of choice. We also used stevia to help reduce the sugar in these cookies but you can replace the stevia with maple syrup or agave nectar.

The main sugars we like to use are coconut sugar (a low glycemic sugar) and sucanat (less processed sugar) but again you can substitute any sugar of your liking. For these cookies we lightly dusted them with a little powered sugar. It is optional but helps give the cookies a little more holiday look to them like dusted snow?

Pumpkin Snickerdoodle Cookies created by: Lori and Michelle makes 20-24 cookies depending on size of scoop prep-time: 5 minutes bake-time: 10-13 minutes

Ingredients:

2 cups gluten free flour blend (or spelt, or any flour of choice)
1 1/2 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 cup coconut oil (or oil of choice)
1 cup coconut or sucanat sugar (or sugar of choice)
20 drops liquid stevia (or 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave)
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg

Directions: Grab a large bowl and place all dry ingredients into the bowl and whisk. And set aside. Next grab another bowl and add in your wet ingredients and sugar. Stir till combined. Then slowly add in your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients. And continue to stir till combined. Scoop cookies onto parchment lined cookie sheets and set in fridge to set while making your cinnamon sugar coating. Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cardamom (optional, we added it because we love it)

Place all cinnamon sugar coating ingredients into a bowl and stir. Next grab your cookies from fridge and place one cookie at a time into the sugar coating and coat each cookie with mixture. Then place your cinnamon sugar coated pumpkin cookies back on your parchment lined cookie sheet and place cookies trays into a 350 degree oven. Bake cookies for about 10-13 minutes.

Now don't these cookies just scream the holidays?

We think so! Treat yourself and your loved ones to these cookies this holiday season you will be glad you did! These pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies have a light and fluffy texture on the inside with a slight crunch on the bottom. And the touch of powered sugar on top just is icing on the cake for these cookies. Enjoy.

Have you seen Courtney Love's NYC West Village townhouse on the Jane site?

I thought it was interesting but not my style at all. It is an insanely romantic feel to it & it's obvious she loves antique pieces. I thought the blue paint on the staircase walls was very PRETTY & calming...It's quite apparent there are no male influences in her home, it's VERY girly.

However, I found the whole vibe of the home to be a sad one... perhaps it's because I'm just not into the romantic-bohemian style..

This is Drew, back again to share the creation of a holiday tablescape that coordinates with the home decor I created with my first post.Tropical colors of coral & lime continue in this table setting with a little bit of gold and shimmer to play off the Christmas scence.

These bracelets are by sisters, Carolyn Berluti & Lisa Sisco in Italy. They created sets of 7 bracelets, each one representing a member ofthe family, and called them “Families”. At first the bracelets were just personal gifts for families & friends, but soon became a hot commodity for boutique owners to carry in their stores!

DIY: Statement Necklace..

Hello Made By Girl readers! I'm Jenny May from the Swede Records.
I'm so honored to be on Jen's team! I really do hope you enjoy my DIY creations & that they inspire you to try something new for yourself.

For my first project, I decided to recreate this statement necklace that I found on Pinterest. My jaw just about dropped to the floor when I saw this beauty. I could not for the life of me find the necklace to purchase anywhere so I decided to give making one on my own a go...

First, gather your teardrop pendants (I found mine at an antique store for $25). The middle pendant should be bigger than the rest.

Be sure to test out different nail polish colors to find your desired color palette.

Start off by painting several coats of nail polish on each pendant but only paint one side of the crystals.

Let the pendants dry, then add a clear top coat for chip protection.

Next, securely place one gold brass ring in each small opening on the pendants.

Finally, position and set each pendant on the gold chain. I left about an inch of space between each crystal. The side of the crystal that is not painted should be facing outward as the color shines through beautifully.

Et voila! I was so happy with the end result. It turned out to be a lot easier than I thought and it only took a little over an hour!

Pair this necklace with a black dress and stilettos and you got yourself the perfect statement necklace for the Holidays!
