Upper East Side

I'm crazy about the Upper East side. Hoping to stay in this area when we finally find an apartment. I'm not sure why I love this neighborhood so much. Perhaps it has something to do with all the cool architecture? The people here can be so-so, of course depending on which direction you go. I love Madison AVENUE. It's great for shopping - but 'some' of the people there can be a bit too snooooooty for my taste. Not that I dislike them or anything. No offense to those living on Madison AVE. - that's why I said 'some' people.

Anyhow - every so often I frequent real estate sites & came across a gorgeous town home here on the Upper East side. You can actually check out all the details here on StreetEasy. Way beyond affordable in my world, but no ONE says I can't look & say "WOW".

Anyone else in LOVE with the East side of NYC? Or do you have another favorite area in NY you prefer?

  2. TOO GORGEOUS! I think I fell in love with the home with the first picture and even more (if possible) as I continued down your post. Too bad its only 31 million over budget. :P

  6. Wow, the apartment is gorgeous! And on the upper east side? Perfection. I can definitely see your furniture and decor there.

The price seems a bit steep though :) Isn't it amazing how different the price would be if it was in some other city.

  10. I lived on 71st between 1st and York. I miss it :-( I wish we could be back there, although I can't complain since I'm in San Francisco now. I like how convenient it is. It may not be the "coolest" neighborhood but it has great architecture, the park is very close and it's pretty quite, for NY standards...

  11. I'll say WOW, too! That front door is amazing, and what a beautiful, LARGE space for NYC. Wishing you luck in your apartment hunt!

  13. LAUREN: yea, it would def be cheaper elsewhere..NYC has some of the most expensive real estate for sure! Wish i could afford it...!

  14. hi jen

i used to live on 85th and 3rd. if I had to do it all over again, I would probably go murray hill, gramercy park or chelsea neighborhoods, that way not too far from the village and soho and not too far from uptown as well. kind of in the middle of the city.
Keep on trucking, I don't doubt that you will be in your dream home in no time;-)

  15. I love the first photo. Such a soft and simple design with obviously an amazing view. I don't know that much about the location but not everyone that shops on Madison Ave lives right there. I hope you find something close enough to be happy.

  16. I lived on 95th and 3rd for 10 years and I still miss it. It was such a charming neighborhood - totally chill and laid-back. (But I know what you mean about heading a little more west from there. A couple blocks can have a completely different feel!)

  17. i'm more of a downtown girl, but i used to live on 73rd and LOVED passing all those gorgeous townhouses (with the carriage/car ports underneath!) in the 60's and 70's.

  18. Before we moved to the UES - which we love, we lived downtown in the financial district, two blocks south of the WTC. It was so tucked out of the way, but we adored it. ('The Bridge Cafe' was a favorite haunt.) Enjoy!

  19. I love the UES and down by SoHo. Wish I could afford to live there! Best of luck to you in your home search! :)

  24. That leaves me speechless . . and it has your name written all over it. Can't you just see your artwork on those walls. And all of that natural light. Dreamy.

  28. TriBeCa is amazing. I've been here 5 years now and couldnt think of living anywhere else. The Upper East Side does have pretty architecture and convenient/close shops but who wants to be on the crazy 4/5/6 lines.

  36. I live in Clinton Hill Brooklyn in a Brownstone. I love my hood. the UES is nice if you want to pass through and look at all the pretty architecture and get some shopping in but if you want to really feel the vibe of NYC, be sure to spend time in other neighborhoods. You will always remember your time here.
