Painting A Sofa

Yup, that's right. Ever paint a sofa?!?!?

Sometimes I receive submissions for DIY projects that blow me away, this is a DIY that did just that.

Bethy who blogs over at I Just Love Today - decided to take on a weekend project by painting a sofa she bought on Craigslist for $75!

Below, she summarizes how she did it.

I just used a generic Walmart brand of paint in a color they matched from a pricier brand. The color they matched it to is: Glidden Rainforest Fern. There are plenty of other colors but I wanted a warmer tone of green!

If you'd like to try something like this, here's what you'll need for this entire project:

  • Latex Semi-gloss paint
  • Fabric/Textile Medium
  • Scented paint additive (Glade French Vanilla)
  • Paint brush

Would you ever consider doing this type of DIY project??? Or would you rather buy a new sofa?!?

If you'd like more in depth info or have any questions, visit Bethy's blog & email her there! Hmmm I'm totally inspired now....since my sofa is WHITE!!!

 Have a lovely weekend everyone!!

  4. That is one awesome $75 couch...I love CG! I have seen this painting technique before and think it is pretty interesting..I would totally attempt it if I needed to redo a lighter colored piece of furniture!

  7. Never knew you could paint a couch! Seems like it would loose it's softness. Like, I wouldn't want to lay my face on it! Love the color though! :)

  14. I actually did paint fabric...I have a bench in my hallway and I painted the wood gold, fabric hot pink and cording white...it's stiff...i wouldn't do it on a functional piece, but since this piece is just for decorative purposes I went for it...

  19. I just finished painting an ugly orange wingback chair red to match my foyer using leftover paint and fabric medium. It looks great and I got it done for far less than it would have cost to reupholster.

To be totally honest, the fabric doesn't feel good to the touch but nobody sits in it much anyway!

  20. Ok that is totally genius! I would have thought you need to reupholster the whole sofa, which is so costly but for 75 bucks that is brilliant

  23. Does it not feel stiff or crunchy for lack of a better word when you sit on it?
