Affording Martin Margiela?? (Made By Girl)

I can't stand falling in LOVE with a pair of shoes to then be disappointed. Ok, not with the shoes BUT the price tag! In this case the lovely Martin Margiela Ovine wedge sandals at $895. What the?!?

Don't you hate that? You see them, picture yourself in them & even think up an ENTIRE OUTFIT around them...you go crazy searching the net only to find out, YOU CAN'T AFFORD THEM! Well darn....my heart just sank because I know these would look so cute on me!

I remember MY SISTER once telling me that she bought her first pair of expensive shoes at 18. They cost her $290. That was a LOT for her at the time. She said that as she walked out of the store, she had to hold onto a street pole because she felt DIZZY.

She had never dropped that much CASH on a pair of shoes & she couldn't believe it. Ha! She was totally laughing when she told me this story....I couldn't help but laugh as well.

Ever had this happen to you??? You come across something amazing only to be LET DOWN by the high price tag?!?!? What was it??!?

  1. I had a heart attack when I spent 200 bucks in Target on non essentials. Mind you, I was in college and I saved my money the entire summer but still.

  8. I had this same experience happen last week with a pair of Miu Miu shoes on NAP. They are just so lovely and I could imagine wearing them and loving them so much, but I just can't spend that kind of money on shoes right now.

I tried to find a suitable alternative, but it just wasn't happening. So I decided to take my first foray into using a design your own shoe company. It's easier on the wallet and fingers crossed they come out well.

These shoes from Anthro have a similar vibe to those MM: http://bit.ly/jrnABN

  11. For me, it was a bag at the Furla store at the bottom of the Spanish Steps in Rome when I was on a business trip years ago. It was like $365, more than I've ever spent on a single item (before or since). My boss was with me, and knowing that she was about to give me a raise, she convinced me to buy it. I used that bag every day for a year to justify the expense!

  12. The new line of leather bags from Kikki K - I need a new work bag and the Sodermalm leather tote would be awesome . . . but can't justify it from any angle :(

  13. Oh yes, all the time! I don't know why I seem to be drawn to expensive shoes. Haha!

I'm in love with Danish designer Camilla Skovgaard's shoes. They're around $500-800 so I've yet to cave but I know exactly how you feel!

  14. Ugh why does money have to be so difficult? I have been trying to figure out the designer of those fab shoes on Rachel Bilson, thanks for the help! Those are seriously amazing.

  15. I'm obsessed with the nude ones! I just came across these looks for less - not the same thing, but not bad!?

  16. Say what?!?! Yea, way out of my price range, maybe someone will just give you them for free?

  17. I know what you mean. Especially since I'm curvaceous, it's hard for me to find stuff around here that is cute and affordable. I make a wish list and keep an eye out for good deals. I love those shoes too! I saw some on Torrid Grey Bella Cuff Heels that went on sale but those wedges are just amazing. I have to remind myself that cheaper is not always better and you pay more for quality. But yeah...895? Hmm. I don't think I could ever drop that much on a pair of shoes! Yikes!

A wedding dress, which I tried on (they had my budget but of corse took a dress out 4 times the price and didn't tell me!!) in a London Boutique. Heart sank :( but did get an amazing one months after that was 10 times cheaper x

  19. Did you do something to enable a mobile version for your blog? I love it! It's like overnight I can read your blog so much easier on my phone! Yay! Anyways, those shoes are waaaay to expensive for me. I freak out over buying $8 Essie polish though...but I find I usually get the high price let down with purses the most. Xo Happy Friday! -Jet

  20. Those are gorgeous !! This happens to me all the time! Ha. I have been looking for a round coffee table and recently found a few beautiful options only to see that the price tag is in the thousands ! And what makes it even worse is that I cannot find ANY other options that I like.

  22. CEILIDH- nice! Those are some major heels, wow! Oh and a major price tag - yikes!

  23. JOURNEYCHIC: Hey- at least you got some good use out of it. Sometimes i think the worst purchases are when you splurge & find out you rarely use the item!

  24. PNEW: I love looking at 'looks for less' websites like that one you posted, thanks! I just looked at it and dont like the look for less shoe as much, For some reason i just really like the way the leather drapes over the back of the heel on the Margiela shoe.

  25. I've had that so many times. Usually its purses, yesterday it was a blazer...*tears*. That's kind of why I started my Frugal Friday posts lol

  30. Hi Jen! I'm a french reader and before all sorry for my bad english...
    i hope you'll understand me.

i dream about Louboutins since a long time and my boyfirend just realized it!!! It offered me Louboutins for my birthday, i was SO excited!!! And the price just gives an enormous headache, almost 1000 euros... He is such an angel!!!!

oh and i found this http://www.zalando.fr/ash-atanado-sandales-a-talons-noir-as211x008-802.html

i know it's not exactly like martin margiela's shoes but there is a kind of similitude... and the price gives smile!

  31. It happens to me all the time especially furniture and handbags, both my absolute favorites! Sometimes, it's not that you couldn't afford it, it's just that you can't stomach the ridiculous price tag!

  32. Absolutely! LOL
This happened to me with a pair of all leather peep toes. They were made in Spain. I saw them in the store, tried them on & fell in love.
My feet never felt so luxurious; but, at full price, they were too expensive.
The peep toes found me, though! Several months later, I spotted them (in my size!) at a discount store for $35. I think I was meant to have them.

  33. Oh, honey... Happens. All. The. Time. Literally. But that's probably because I'm a fairly frugal person by nature.

The latest item of dissapointment is a bag/purse. I love the one you pictured in your NYC trip post. :)

  38. Leave it to me to ALWAYS find the most expensive things to love. These are crazily expensive but so amazing. I think my limit with shoes is around $150 and they have to be like rock star status shoes :) Well, times like this I wish I had a twin sister to "share" this with. Then, MAYBE, I could rationalize it...haha! Have a FABULOUS weekend Jen!

  45. Yes, furniture that I LOVE always comes with a price tag I can't afford. So I shop and get creative to find a similar look. BUT I have to admit when I was in Paris 10 years ago I spend $200 Euros on a pair of boots. They are still gorgeous today. All Italian leather, even the sole and heel. So well made. I would spend $$ on shoes. Shoes are a work of art, especially if they can look good and feel comfy at the same time. You have to take care of those feet they are there to carry you for a lifetime!

I totally fell in love with an Armani pants (picture black baggy capri-like pants with elastic at bottom .. chic yet casual .. the closest thing that Armani will probaby be to a bohemian style cut ... and perfect with heels) which I spotted at an outlet store. I figured .. Outlet!!! ... it must be a good price since it is in an outlet. Well, the price was still $699 boohooooooooo sniff sniff so I said my goodbyes and kept walking all broken hearted.

  49. Oh yes.
A very, very nice black skirt at Corso Como 10 in Milan. It was a kind of thick, black lace, not transparent, and had just the right amount of poofiness and the right length. Then I looked at the price. $ 9 500!

  50. I fell hard for a pair once. They were Alaia's at Barney's... and they were twelve hundred dollars! Needless to say, I had to let them go, however they haunted my dreams... and about a year ago I found them at a second hand store called Wasteland! The only problem was that they were a size and a half too big, and three hundred dollars! I bought them anyway, figuring it was fate. I now use them as bookends :)
