New Sofa from West Elm...(Via Made By Girl)

So, I finally decided to get a bigger and better quality sectional.  I walked into West Elm last weekend & I knew this was it. Plus it helped that it was 10% off....!!

In case you're wondering which one it is exactly, its the Walton sectional.  They offer it in a variety of fabrics & I REALLY wanted it in velvet, but they said it was like a 10 week wait.....huh?!? Forget that!

First, my father will be visiting with my brother this month so I needed something relatively soon. Second, the basket weave fabric was available on the spot, so I took that.... EXACTLY like the one they had in the store.

I'll be featured in the upcoming issue of Adore Magazine - so you'll see the way it looks in my home then!

BELOW: Old sofa.   For those of you wondering... what did she do with the old sofa?? Well, I sold it.  In my opinion when you want to make a BIG purchase.....

TIP: SELL items in your home that you don't need.

The REASON for this is so you can offset the cost of the NEW purchase! I do this all the time when I buy something new for my home. So, if you know you have items in your garage you're not going to use.... EVER....just sell it & buy something you really love for your place!

  21. It really is such good advice to sell homewares you don't need or want anymore ... Our community's garage sale is coming up next month, and I'm looking forward to getting rid of our apartment furniture, so we can get some "big kid" items for our house! Love the sectional you selected, too!

  22. Are they both kind of alike? I guess the new one is better quality and bigger right? Looking forward to your feature ;)

  23. Jen I really like the old one better, why did you give up on that? New one just looks a little bigger, unless you wanted sth just new:)

  26. ARZU: The old one wasnt as sturdy..meaning it wasnt as firm to sit on as this one is. This one is a much better quality all together. Much more durable I think in the long run... :))

  27. LEAH: with the old one I only had a small incident where it got a stain & i used that TIDE pen...and it came out. This one is to new...so im not sure about stains yet. :)

  35. Love the new sofa - great scale and nice lines. I'm excited to see it in your home! Glad you didn't go the long wait route. I waited MONTHS for my West Elm bedding.

And you're so right about selling unused items. I was a guest blogger over at the English Organizer recently and shared my tips for selling unwanted wares for top dollar. Selling items makes it much easier to part with goods and live an uncluttered life. http://englishorganizer.com/2011/04/cash-from-clutter-part-2/

  44. Jen, Since I read your blog everyday I feel like you are one of my girl friends so I'm going to put in my two cents on the sofa. And you know how long you have to live with the sofa once the purchase has been made.

This sofa is a mistake! You are going to hate all of the loose pillows they are a constant fluffing and fixing problem. And if you want to put stylish pillows on the sofa it looks too cluttered. You should take a look at Room and Board, their quality is far superior.

    ReplyDelete
  45. AMY H. - thanks for your input... But I don't mind the loose pillows for now. I only have two smaller cushions on it and they look pretty good.

Ps do you work for Room & Board?

  47. FLIRTY GEMS: It's from West Elm , not ZGallerie ;o

  48. pretty - I need to sell a few items, do you have any tips, how do you do it, e-bay?

  49. PVE DESIGN: I've actually just sold my items locally via Craigslist. Also, Ive been fortunate to have my site and sell some of the smaller things in Jennifer's closet. Ebay is sketchy....Im not fond of it because if it doesn't sell, you still get charged a listing fee....Community Garage sales are another way too if you have enough items. :)

  50. Hey Jen,

Great minds think alike.. I sold most of the stuff that I did not use for over a year and with that money I bought a sectional from West Elm, as well.

    Good thinking!

  55. I have this exact sofa, in the cream standard fabric. We've had it since 2008. I loved (and still love) the overall lines, the loose pillows in the back...but the fabric is very, very hard to keep clean. I sprayed it down with scotchguard which helps a little but in the end the thing still gets stains. I don't even think it's the fact that it's cream...it's the crappy fabric. And the cushions have totally flattened out. I hate to write this, but I wish someone had told me before I bought...might have just spent a little more. I hope they've improved the fabric and the cushions in the last couple years so you don't have the same experience! :)

  56. I have this same exact sofa, in the standard cream fabric...bought it in 2008 for my living room. I loved (and still do) the overall lines and size of the sofa, and the loose pillows. Unfortunately, the quality of the fabric makes it extremely hard to keep clean, even when you scotchguard it. (I don't even think it's the fact that it's cream...it appears that the texture of the fabric grabs onto dirt). The cushions have also flattened out and the upholstery always shifts around on the cushion no matter what you do. I hate to be telling you this, but I kind of wish I would have known this stuff before I bought. Hopefully they've fixed these issues in the last couple years so you don't have the same experience. Best of luck! :)
